NASA NEEDS HELP

 We are a peaceful protest group, and we stand in solidarity with other scientific advocacy groups.

In 2025 NASA leadership began preemptively acting on the President's and OMB's proposed budget request, greatly reducing the number of civil servants and contractors across the Agency and cutting programs before Congress's budget came out.  After a year of chaos Congress's passed a budget that effectively maintained NASA's budget level, but the Agency is still grappling with the loss of expertise and the damage that was already done.  We are still waiting to see what the President's Budget Request looks like this year, to understand if 2026 will just be a repeat of 2025.

Cuts to NASA's science budget would drastically hinder NASA's ability to produce science from current and future missions.  To win the Space Race to the Moon, NASA was prioritized and appropriated $68 billion in 1965 alone (adjusted for inflation). In 2026, with goals to reach Mars, NASA's proposed budget is only $18.8 billion. Some of the cuts to NASA science involve turning off spacecraft that are already in space and actively sending back data.  NASA contributes to agriculture, weather predictions, and safety.  Without NASA Earth science, early detection for natural disasters and forecasting would be imprecise and difficult.  So far Congress has backed NASA's mission, but safely implementing the budget appropriated has yet to be seen.
