Early Life.
Nari Vanthir was born to unknown parents and abducted as a young child by black-market slavers. Under cover of darkness, she was smuggled onto a ship bound for an underground auction, only to be intercepted by the Flaming Fist near Baldur’s Gate. Left without kin, Nari was placed in an orphanage and quickly caught the attention of the affluent Vanthir family, whose business in enchanted artifacts served both military and civilian demands. Taken in more as a diversion for Lady Vanthir, the wife of the Vanthir patriarch, than as a beloved child, Nari found herself in a world of luxury but little love.
Youth.
In the Vanthir household, Nari's life was shaped by high expectations and a strict social hierarchy. Her adoptive brother, Alaric Vanthir, at first delighted to have a sibling, soon grew resentful when her natural brilliance with magical circles and arcane machinery became apparent. Nari's talents were well beyond her years, sparking both her brother's jealousy and her adoptive parents' shrewd ambitions, who publicly attributed her breakthroughs to Alaric, building his reputation as a visionary while Nari remained in the shadows. Bullied by Alaric and neglected by her parents, Nari found solace in her own inventions and a secret pact with an archfey, who amplified her abilities in exchange for the promise of thrilling new creations. Known publicly as a beautiful but subdued "high society flower," Nari’s true persona—sharp-minded, fiercely independent, and quietly ambitious—remained concealed from the world.
Adventure.
Nari’s life took a drastic turn when she was abducted by a nautiloid and swept into the chaotic depths of the Mindflayer invasion. Awakening on a beach with a newfound sense of freedom, Nari saw this strange journey as a chance to escape the gilded prison of her family’s influence finally. Free from the role of submissive daughter, she seized the opportunity to explore her abilities and ambitions unbound by the Vanthir name. Fueled by years of repression, she set her sights on not only exploring the vast realms beyond Baldur’s Gate but also on one day returning to reclaim, or perhaps dismantle, her family’s legacy.
