The National Council for Air Breathing Engines (NCABE) was founded in 1992 as a trust to provide a forum and stimulus to the R&D activities in the field of aerospace propulsion in the country.
The first National Conference on Air-Breathing Engines, NCABE, was held by the trust in Bangalore in 1992. Since then, the trust has been hosting/co-hosting this major technical event as NCABE/NPC/NAPC at different aerospace institutions across the country and is being well-attended by the Indian aerospace community.
NCABE Trust serves as the Indian complement for the International Conference on Air Breathing Engines (ISABE).
The National Aerospace Propulsion Conference (NAPC) is a national conference dedicated to aerospace propulsion technologies. Two of the popular conference series, the National Propulsion Conference (NPC) and the National Conference on Air-Breathing Engines (NCABE), were merged to result in NAPC. This biennial conference is intended to bring together the entire propulsion community spanning the industry, academia and the research labs from across the country. The conference is an ideal opportunity to showcase one’s research activities with peers and also foster future collaborations through networking. After successful editions of this conference in IIT Kanpur in 2017, IIT Kharagpur in 2019 and GTRE+BMS College in 2020, this 4th edition of the conference will be hosted by IIT Bombay. NAPC-2022 will include a keynote lecture, several topical invited lectures and presentations of contributed papers in parallel sessions.
IIT Bombay, the second in the chain of IITs, was set up in 1958. It was the first IIT to be set up with foreign assistance. The funds came from UNESCO in roubles from the Soviet Union. In 1961, the Parliament decreed IITs as 'Institutes of National Importance'. Since then, IIT Bombay has grown from strength to strength to emerge as one of the top technical universities in the world. Over the last sixty-three years, around 62,500 engineers and scientists have graduated from the institute. It is noted for its strong research groups in varied areas of science and technology that are making substantial contributions to national projects. The Institute has also been recently recognised as an Institute of Eminence. Educational programmes here extend beyond the physical sciences and engineering into humanities and social sciences such as Economics, English, Philosophy, Psychology and Sociology and into management studies. Several new programmes in line with the current developments, such as Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Health Informatics, AI-ML, Urban Systems, etc have also been initiated. Over the years, the institute has also created a niche for its innovative short-term courses through continuing education and distance education programmes. IIT Bombay continues to be a sought- after destination for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) studies and attracts the top performers in national examinations such as GATE, CEED, UCEED, NET, JAM and JEE (ADV).
