Naomi Francis
I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Ottawa. I study how meaning works and how information is packaged in discourse. My research interests include:
How at-issue and not-at-issue meaning interact
Polarity, modality, focus, and presupposition
Multi-modal strategies for discourse management
In the past, I have also worked on articulatory phonetics. My non-linguistic interests include knitting, fencing, and baking.
How to pronounce my name: My name sounds like the sequence of English words neigh-owe-me, with emphasis on the second syllable. Or, in IPA: /ne͡ɪ.ˈo͡ʊ.mi/. My pronouns are she/her (en français: elle).
