Dr. Nandan Maiti is an Assistant Professor in Transportation Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur), India. His research focuses on developing sustainable mobility solutions, with particular emphasis on traffic flow modeling, network traffic operations and management, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and their applications in road traffic control.
Prior to joining IIT Kharagpur, Dr. Maiti worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Emob Lab, University Gustave Eiffel (ENTPE), Lyon, France, where he contributed to research on urban traffic modeling and congestion management. His academic and research interests lie at the intersection of traffic flow theory, data, and applications, aiming to improve the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of transportation systems.
Research Interests:
Traffic Flow Modelling: Higher-dimensional traffic flow models, 3D macroscopic fundamental diagrams, Multimodal network flow modeling, etc.
Intelligent transportation systems: Traffic state estimation using sparse data, Vehicle trajectory extraction using GPS sensors and image processing, Digital Twins of city traffic, AI application in traffic controlling and monitoring, etc.
Transportation Data Analysis: Data fusion and mining from drone, Wi-Fi, probe, bus timetable (GTFS), loop detector, Google API data, and data simulation, etc.
