I wonder if the onboard transporter on the QNAP have any bandwidht limitation per task, as is the only one that I cannot replace.

I don't believe it a lot, because the onboard transporter can deal with the 5 simultanneous backups and write data at the 1Gbps.

Yes, I know, but this same Job executes on a ARM QNAP on the same network, and deliver >700Mbps on a single job.

Same Origin Vms, same network, same transporters (except the onboard one), and the Intel QNAP have higher specs on CPU and storage.

- Full Removed NAKIVO Backup from Intel QNAP.

- Installed NAKIVO Transporter only on the Intel QNAP. (and updated to 10.4)

- Configured ARM QNAP job to use same origin transporter as ever but changed CIFS repo to use the installed Transported above.

Remember the repo is the one on the Intel via CIFS.

Well... 200Mbps top again. All the time. Not using Nakivo Native on Intel QNAP, just using Transporter alone.

If I change just the destination transporter to the ARM QNAP I got again full speed.

So, I bet... There is a issue with the Nakivo Transporter for Intel QNAP.

Let's wait the testing on another independent Intel QNAP

If we use a different transporter (besides the default) when using the QNAP Backup, maybe reduces that load from the ESXi hosts. Honestly did not test this, but plan to check and then update this article with my findings.

As we can see in the above images using Windows Backup is a little bit faster than using the QNAP Backup. However, again, like in the ESXi hosts resources, this could be because a better connection to the source Storage using iSCSI initiator. Again, possibly if we use the second transporter in the QNAP, we could have the same result or even the best results. To be tested then.

I sent an email to the support again, explaining how to solve this specific issue and here is their answer: "If it's possible, please update NAKIVO and all transporters involved to latest version (v10) which is more stability.".

I have a nakivo installation with an unique esx server as inventory. Currently i backup all vms in a qnap based on intel cpu with nakivo transporter app. I added a new qnap at the network and i'm trying to use it as second trasporter/repository. No problem adding it as transporter in nakivo's dashboard but i can't add the folder as repository cfis. The error is tha "the folder doesn't exists", so it can't create the NakivoBackup folder. Currently I have the doubt that I choosed the wrong nas : it's an Arm processor. I opened a support ticket but i'm also trying to use this forum.

but i'm worring, because I can make the share smb/cfis on qnap, but i can't see it from nakivo. Exactly following the instruction of your link.

In a default installation NAKIVO Backup & Replication automatically backs up its own configuration, including all jobs, inventory, information about connected transporters, repositories, etc to a local unencrypted backup repository. It can be found in the following location "/opt/nakivo/repository".

The transporter is the component that runs the actual backup job, recovery, data compression, etc. Using multiple transporters is interesting if you have multiple sites that you want to back up. For Office 365 you can just use the on-board transporter installed by default.

And then enter its IP address. You can also hit the More Option Link which uncovers few more options concerning networking (you can change ports) and you can personalize the transporter's name and change the number of concurrent tasks (6 by default).

Really? A DR site needs transporter? Yes, it does. Here is a screenshot from Nakivo Help center showing the architecture. The transporter plays an important role here as it uses network compression and encrypting when sending data over to the remote site where another transporter decrypt the data and stores them in a local repository.

What do you like best about the product?The most use full and best thing about Nakivo Backup and Replication is that it really works out of a box and with very little prerequisite involved. The configuration process is really simple. Plus as a system it does not brake up. If there is a error in job you will find it in FAQ most of the time.
