This is my best work from my freshman year. The work that I have selected demonstrates my learning and growth in the six 21st Century Competencies. Each 21C Competency page includes my best work in that area, and my self-rating with my reflection that defends the rating I have selected.
About Me
My A1 class is French 1 , and we have been learning how to greet people, numbers, time, how to introduce someone(like your friends to your parents), feelings, where do we live, weather ,describe peoples personal features, how to order food, food, places, high school schedules, and weather. We also learned how to talk about clothes, clothes in general, descriptions of clothes, how to buy clothes, and how to sell clothes. My teacher is Mrs. Nouchkioui she is from Morocco and French is one of the three languages she speaks. She speaks Arabic, French, and English which is pretty impressive to me. French wasn't my first choice as my language, but i am actually really enjoying. I enjoy learning the language but also the culture.
My A2 class is Physical education with Mr. Le fort. When we started we did the fitness test, which is a test that test your physical abilities by testing your flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, strength, and endurance, by making us do as many push ups as we can, as many sit ups as we can in one minute, do a sit and reach, and do a mile run that as time. But after that we started to play sports like soccer, football, and volley ball. But towards the end of the year we played base sports, Pickle Ball, Badminton, Basketball, and Ultimate Frisbee. We also had to take the fitness test toe more times through the year and I noticed an increase physical ability. Physical education is one the class that I really enjoy on my A days. I enjoy gym because we play a variety of sports and it is a form of exercise.
My A3 Class is PhyChem with Mr. Willem or as he likes to call it Cosmos. In this class we learn about a variety of things like climate change, the brain, and some of the elements of the periodic table. Some of the topics that we learn about are very interesting like the brain while studying the brain we learned about reaction time and multitasking. I learned that when we "multitask" our brain is just switching task extremely fast. But my interest for science is on and off. I only like certain topics and others I really just don't like. We continued our studies with the brain and focused on illusions like the broken straw phenomenon where a straw appears broken in a glass cup in water, we also talked about light and sound waves, and the transfer of energy which is topic I think he was really trying to focus on in my opinion.
MY A4 class is English 1 with Mr. Staysnaik, in his class we annotate articles, pictures, and poems. This is called a daily flow, when we complete the daily flow we pick a sentence or phrase that we found interesting or have questions about. Then we explain the quote or phrase in our won words and make a connection to it. I enjoy this class a lot and like Mr. Staysnaik book talks because he talks about very interesting books and I end up reading them.
My B1 class is geometry with Mr. Donohue. We have gone over a lot of topics in his class ( to many to count). Geometry is one of my favorite classes because Mr.Donohue really goes into depth on each topic. He also tries to get us to practice as us as we can that means giving us homework every class we have with him. I also really like math making it my all time favorite subject. I really just like the way Mr. Donohue teaches:). This year my favorite topic was trigonometry which is the study of tringles
My B2 class is writing workshop with Mrs.La Pan in her class we recently just finished a personal narrative, mine was about a memory the impacted my life positively. We also do little argumentative essay's where we write claims, show evidence, and a warrant. My La Pan is a great teacher she is very understandable and is always willing to help. I think these are very good qualities to have as a teacher in my opinion.
My B3 class is world History with Mr.Comando in his class we talk about social injustices and the agriculture of different areas in a variety of time periods. We have been learning about the monarchs of England during the dark ages, specifically the hierarchy and how each class was treated. We also learned about the scientific revolution with Galileo and how he challenged the churches belief of astronomy. We also talked about mass genocides and revolutions of other countries and what they been through to become independent World History is a fun class Mr.Comando makes the lessons fun by making them into games and little reenactments.
My B4 class is Dramatic arts with Ms.Kelly in her class we studied the stage terms like center stage and call backs. We did a theater manual which used these terms in a scenario and defined them. Every Thursday class two women come from a group called alive where we talk about events that changed us and the hardships we have faced. We also have done a couple of lessons on improve which were very fun. We would act out scenes that might happen in real life like your mom finding out you left the house without their permission. After midterms our focus shifted from that to making and acting out our own plays about social injustice in our society. My play is about police brutality and racial profiling, I personally think these topics are underrated and are very serious topics
My year has been very good I have done very well in my classes and manged to make a lot of friends. I learned that I am a very sociable person when I want to be. On of my highs so far is that I have most of my classes with my best friend. Another high is I enjoy most of my classes and almost everyone is nice.My last high is that we are able to redo work that doesn't reach the competent standard. One of my lows are that their is still drama but their will be drama every where. Another low is that we don't have study halls freshman year because I would love to have one to just organize and fix any grade that I'm not happy with. But overall I think that I adjusted to high school fairly easily. I don't really struggle in my classes and I always try my best and end up with good grades, and when I don't get a grade I like i try to fix it until I like it. As the year is coming to a end i look back and notice that this year went by very quickly and I have put a lot of work in to get my grades the way they are. But most importantly I noticed that if I hadn't had support from my family and friends I wouldn't be me and would have lost focus during this year.
