Key Points About Paper:
This work presented a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) based cooperative radio frequency - free space optics (RF-FSO) channel in the presence of eavesdroppers in physical layer.
The RF link was modeled with multipath rician fading distribution, while the FSO link was formulated by generalized Málaga distribution.
The proposed RIS-aided mixed RF-FSO channel was analyzed based on 3 eavesdropping scenarios. In scenario-1, a single eavesdropper was assumed to attack on only first-hop RIS-rician channel. In scenario-2, a single eavesdropper was assumed to attack on only second-hop RIS-Málaga channel. In scenario-3, both eavesdroppers from previous two scenarios were assumed to attack simultaneously.
Fading paremeters of proposed channel were analyzed via average secrecy capacity (ASC), secrecy outage probability (SOP), probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC), effective secrecy throughput (EST), and intercept probability (IP); for all three wiretapping scenarios.
A comperative analysis of 3 proposed scenarios was performed in this work in the final part of the numerical result section.
