Gazing out from our upper vineyard, one has a compass view of Arizona heritage. To the west lies the Verde Salt Mine, one of only three prehistoric salt mines in northern Arizona. The Verde River, one of the last free flowing rivers in Arizona, meanders from the east to the south.

As my taxi pulls up outside the main gate at Corsham Cellars security is obviously tight. There are motion detectors, razor wire, huge steel doors and 24-hour guards that James Bond would struggle to overcome. All of this technology is designed to protect acre upon acre of Chteaux Lafites, Ptrus, Latours and Margauxs, which have literally been buried underground in a disused mine.

"The locals call it the wine mine," my friendly country cabbie tells me as I get out to confirm my identity at the security desk. "My daughter used to work down there for a while; it's a funny place, like a set from The Avengers or something."

With such large sums of money at stake, storing fine wine in an old rack in the corner of a draughty kitchen or in the garden shed is no longer an option. So much so that there are now seven million bottles stored underground at Corsham Cellars. Run by Cert Octavian, a company that specialises in looking after the finer things in life, the mine was previously owned by the Ministry of Defence. It spent millions of pounds making it suitable to store explosives and ammunition during the Second World War but since 1989, when the labyrinthine underground site, which spreads over one million square feet, was bought by the businessman Nigel Jagger, its corridors have been stacked with wine, not TNT.

"In hindsight, the attributes underground at Corsham are perfect as we are insulated by natural rock and have a constant temperature. All we need to do is tweak the humidity and ensure a smooth flow of fresh air passes through the mine."

"Thanks to a box ticked by a pen-pushing Civil Servant back in 1936, the MoD spent millions on high-quality galvanised ducting that runs through the mine. It's still solid after all these years and means we can bring a totally new supply of fresh air down every half an hour for perfect storage conditions," he says.

From seeing this product, to purchase, then delivery, I was extremely impressed. This is a gift and I truly wished it was mine!

Excellent service and a beautiful gift for anyone, particularly if you love wine!

I had that same issue with xubuntu after 18.04 upgrade. First install vino. Mine was removed on upgrade without any notice. Also even after installing vino, the command vino-preferences doesn't work. Here is an easy workaround. Install dconf-editor then open it and go to org-gnome-desktop-remote access and turn off encryption. There are also several other remote options you can set in dconf-editor. However until you install vino, the remote-access doesn't show in dconf-editor. I hope someone can explain what happened to vino-preferences.

I am disappointed vino is now incompatible with Lubuntu, apparently due to an arbitrary decision or possibly a simple oversight. With respect, "workaround by installing different software" could be said of any bug.

I have revised how I use mine. The problem I found with it was that after pouring it you push the plunger down and so eliminate pretty much all the air from the surface of the wine which is great and does a fantastic job of preserving the wine. However, when pouring, the wine naturally flows through and over the valve mechanism and so after pouring the that mechanism is inevitably now wet with wine and the top of this is fully exposed to the air and a quick sniff the next day confirms it smells of stale wine. This, in my view, can then taint the remaining wine when next it is poured. So now I absolutely use the plunger to store the wine with the air eliminated but instead of pouring it through the valve mechanism I simply unscrew the whole thing and just pour straight out of the glass. This for me works perfectly and I find very little, if any, degradation of flavour over the 5 days I usually take to drink a bottle.

In addition to a hot tub that can accommodate seven, the $14M home also features a "wine mine": a 56-foot-long temperature-controlled room that's traversed by an antique steel mine car and has "sound effects like you're moving through a mine shaft and and lights that are computerized to flicker like a lantern would in a mine." There's enough storage in the space for 1,600 bottles of wine.

Our cellars started life as a chalk mine. In the Second World War, they were converted into an aircraft factory. And in the early days of the Cold War, they were used as a top-secret, highly classified bunker. Our chalk mine cellars have even been featured in Midsomer Murders! 2351a5e196
