MZCL

MZCL (pronounced Mezcal) is a Drum & Bass producer and DJ from the Coachella Valley, Southern California. His journey began nearly two decades ago, unknowingly set in motion by late-night sessions with his older brother, whose growing vinyl collection and bedroom DJ sets sparked a lifelong obsession with music.

Early influences like Dom & Roland, R.A.W, AK1200, and Metalheadz shaped MZCL’s sound as he first learned to scratch over hip hop instrumentals and record cassette mixes. But it was a warehouse rave in downtown Los Angeles—Project Love Groove—that shifted everything. Drawn into a small, dimly lit room with black walls and a single static red light, he encountered the raw power of Bad Company’s Drum & Bass set accompanied by a tongue twisting emcee. “In that moment,” he recalls, “I just knew—I wanted to be a DnB emcee.”

This revelation led to over a decade immersed in hip hop. Highly influenced by the emotional openness & writing style of a friend of his brother, MZCL wrote & performed across California, Arizona, and Nevada, releasing heartfelt albums rooted in introspection and personal vulnerability. But in 2019, during the final stages of his last rap album, he felt an undeniable internal shift. That pull brought him deep into the Mojave Desert for the legendary Moon Tribe gatherings, where once again, Drum & Bass called him home.

After experimenting with beatmaking, he committed fully to production in late November 2020, purchasing Ableton Live and immersing himself in crafting deep, emotive Liquid DnB. Not long after, he began DJing, earning recognition for his mixes that uniquely weave in lectures and spoken-word moments from spiritual and philosophical thinkers, uploading his first mix to YouTube in January 2021.

MZCL has since released music on respected international labels such as Fragrance Sounds, Kush Records, Interstellar Audio, DNBB, Lizplay Records, and Mathematica Records.

No stranger to guest mixes he has appeared for Sweet N Sour, Kush Sessions, Data Transmission, DNB France, Subtle Radio, Man from Del Monte, and TAO to name a few.

Bringing things full circle, MZCL has returned to the stage—this time as a DJ and producer—performing at prominent events like Respect Los Angeles and Love Long Beach Festival, where his sets emit deep meditative energy.

In January 2025, MZCL launched his own guest mix and interview series, TAO (Together As One.) Created as a platform to cultivate global DnB talent, TAO highlights friends and peers from around the world, offering not only space to share their sound but also interviews that explore their personal journeys, inspirations, and creative paths.
