27 July 2024
Beaches are more than just beautiful landscapes—they're vital habitats for countless marine animals. This July, a group of MyVolunteer members went to Cunang Beach with a mission to preserve the nature's habitat and beauty through cleaning the beach.
In collaboration with YouthCare Malaysia (YCM) and Sustainability Solutions (SS), this event aims to encourage the community to practice proper waste management at the beach as it can protect marine life being killed by debris resulting from littering behavior (SDG14).
Early in the morning, around 50 volunteers gathered at Cunang Beach in Kampung Orang Asli Tanjung Sepat in Selangor. Everyone began this nostalgic morning with some breakfast and a zumba session to freshen up and get everyone energized for the event.
After all volunteers are ready, a briefing began and the volunteers are assigned into different landscape groups to clean different areas of the lengthy beach. Then, everyone prepares the tools and equipment needed to start their cleaning journey.
Everyone got involved deeply into the activity. Despite needing to do some dirty work, the volunteers managed to keep a calm face and enjoy the process. Even while they are doing their works, they keep the activity casual and enjoys communicating, taking pictures and laugh together!
After around three hours of sweat and laugh, the volunteers managed to clean the whole area of the beach. A place once filled with dirty wastes - are now as clean as a hound's tooth. With that, a final photography session was held with all volunteers and representatives from our collaborators to capture the achievements they made throughout the day.
MyVolunteer with a huge heart, would like to thank all volunteers from MyVolunteer members, YCM and SS for making this impactful event possible. We truly hope that this kind of event can be held for the years to come so that we can continouosly create meaningful impact towards the environment and the people.
