Originally a mission church, the basilica has become a pilgrimage site in the eastern Bay Area.

"Consequently, every poor, needy, suffering or dying person, every stranger, every prisoner, every infirm person is “the child” whom Joseph continues to protect. For this reason, Saint Joseph is invoked as protector of the unfortunate, the needy, exiles, the afflicted, the poor and the dying. ”

The early morning of the busy day, I stopped in Alameda on my way from Pleasanton to San Francisco. The church was open and there were a couple of people praying, the schools nearby were full of kids.
