BASILICA OF ST PETER AND PAUL

BOXMEER

NETHERLANDS

A carmelitane monastery where blessed Titus Brandsma entered his novitiate and a place of an eucharistic miracle at around 1400. The church was destroyed in World War II and rebuilt in 1952.

"I understood that only love sets the limbs in motion, that if love were to be extinguished, the apostles would no longer preach the Gospel, the martyrs would refuse to spill their blood. I understand that love contains all vocations. My vocation is love. I have found my proper place in the Church. I shall be love.

- St Therese of Lisieux, as quoted by Titus Brandsma

I encountered this parish in two waves. Once when I stopped here on my way to Netherlands, in a bright sunny morning in the middle of the peaceful streets of Boxmeer. And then much later when I was digging in for more information and found out the interesting story of the carmelitane blessed professor Titus Brandsma, murdered in Dachau by Nazis.
