OUTSIDE THE WALLS
The basilica is situated outside the city limits of the ancient Rome on the place where St Paul was buried. It is a Benedictine abbey church and holds the portraits of all popes.
"But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.”

A favourite among the basilicas for many, as it lies outside of the madding crowds of the central Rome. True, you need to take the subway and walk but once you enter the "garden" with the statue of St Paul, the relaxing atmosphere soaks in.
