Holy mountain for Jews and Christians alike. King David is buried here and his grave was the most sacred place for Jews when they could not enter the Western Wall. According to the Christian tradition, the Last Supper took place here and Virgin Mary was brought to heaven.
"Say to Daughter Zion: See, your king comes to you. ”
- Matthew 21,5
Jerusalem lies beautifully down below. We slept here in the German Benedictine monastery during my second visit in Jerusalem. The top of the hill lies outside of the old city walls and some fierce fighting took place at the Zion gate during the Six Day war. "Technically", the basilica still lies within the ceasefire zone between the Western and Eastern Jerusalem.
