Basilica of St. Mary and St. Mark, also known as the Minster Church of Reichenau, is a Romanesque church located on the island of Reichenau in Lake Constance. It was originally the church of the Benedictine monastery founded in 724 by Pirminius.
"The whole of Mark’s Gospel is a journey of faith, which develops gradually under Jesus’ tutelage.”
- Benedict XVI
For me, there is not just a single basilica - the whole island of Reichenau is a church, wherever you move, there is a sacred land. The alley hemming the thin strip of road on the arrival connects our worldly labours with the eternal peace of the fields and waters surrounding them.
