Kevelaer is one of the largest pilgrimage centers in the west of Germany. The devotion to Our Lady who comforts all afflicted continues since the Christmas in 19641 when the local merchant decided to build a shrine here.

Pope John Paul II visited Kevelaer on May 2, 1987 and I stopped here 30 years later. The square was busy with events even in February, the main basilica church was under reconstruction but there were loads of other interesting small places a pilgrim could rest for a silent prayer, including the old chapel constructed 400 almost years ago.
