BASILICA OF ST LAWRENCE
AND ST ZDISLAVA

JABLONNÉ V PODJEŠTĚDÍ

CZECH REPUBLIC

Zdislava was a young girl born in Krizanov in Moravia, far away from here. She came to Jablonne with her husband who was part of the king's guard. Inspired by St Agnes of Bohemia, she started to build a hospital and monastery and gave her life for the service to the poor and the sick.

Zdislava raised five dead men to life, healed many through her touch, and was gifted with visions and ecstasies.”

- The Chronicle of Dalimil

We spent a beautiful night in the Dominican monastery next to the basilica with my mum, wife and our still very small kids. We were shown the grave of St Zdislava in the evening and woke up into a beautiful sunny morning. There was an exposition of paintings by Míla Doleželová, we were stunned by beautiful large eyes and vivid colours.
