I am a Principal Researcher at the Industrial Systems Institute, "Athena" Research and Innovation Centre, and a senior researcher at the Computer Technology Institute & Press "Diophantus", Patras, Greece. I received my PhD in 2008 from the Dpt. of Computer Engineering & Informatics at the University of Patras, Greece.
My work revolves around pervasive and distributed systems, with a focus on smart cities, energy efficiency and crowdsourcing during the past few years. It also includes aspects of pervasive systems for educational purposes and entertainment, as well as their intersection with art. I have also worked as adjunct faculty at the University of Patras, Greece, and the Technological Educational Institute of Central Greece.

Projects
EnerMan - ENERgy-efficient manufacturing system MANagement (H2020), which aims to reduce energy consumption of the industry in Europe via creating an energy sustainability management framework to collect data from the factory to predict energy trends using industrial processes, equipment and energy cost models. Participation as a member of the ISI team for the design and implementation of IIoT solutions at the edge and AR/VR tools for the project (https://enerman-h2020.eu). Overall Budget: 12.2M€
GAIA - Green Awareness in Action (H2020), Principal Investigator and Coordinator for the project, which aims to raise the awareness of the school community on sustainability and energy saving through the creation of an IoT platform and educational activities (http://gaia-project.eu/). Overall Budget: 1.77Μ€
E2Data (H2020), the goal of which is to propose an end-to-end solution for Big Data applications that will fully exploit and evolve the current state of cloud services. E2Data innovations will be implemented and driven through four categories of applications that are particularly demanding in resources: financial, health, green buildings and security (https://e2data.eu/). Patriot, the goal of which was to create original portable personal cardiographs working with smartphones and other mobile devices.
SmartSantander (FP7), the purpose of which was to create a large-scale infrastructure in the city of Santander in Spain, to make a "smart city" possible through new applications and services (http://www.smartsantander.eu/). Overall Budget: 8.46Μ€
VITRO (Virtualized dIstributed plaTfoRms of smart Objects, FP7), the aim of which was to develop architectures, algorithms and systems for the provision of unified wireless sensor networks based on the abstraction and the concepts of virtual networks (CORDIS). Overall Budget: 3.4Μ€
AUDIS (EDA, JIP/FP), the purpose of which was to use microphone arrays and sensors to detect and identify threats from mobile users and vehicles in urban environments in a timely manner (AUDIS). Participation as Project Manager for CTI.
WISEBED (Wireless Sensor Network Testbeds, FP7), the purpose of which was to create a multi-level infrastructure with interconnected testbeds of wireless sensor networks, available for research purposes (CORDIS). Overall Budget: 3.63Μ€
AEOLUS (Algorithmic Principles for Building Efficient Overlay Computers, FP6), the purpose of which was to study the principles and develop algorithmic methods to create an overlay computer that would allow transparent and efficient access to the resources of a "universal" computer (CORDIS). Overall Budget: 6.85Μ€
ΑΛΓΟ.Δ.Ε.Σ. (Algorithms for Smart Dust Networks), which focused on algorithmic and system design issues of wireless sensor networks and in particular on smart dust networks (http://ru1.cti.gr/algodes).
