THIRTY

2022 (2017)

This poetic video work is about a small town where the preserved Soviet past hangs over its inhabitants with gray monolithic buildings, pierces the gaze with geometric lines, shapes their worldview. And even people who were born at the turn of decades, states and ideologies, feel some kind of connection with that era. These elements of the inanimate world fill people with a special melancholy, through the prism of which they perceive and see all living things.

*"Thirty" is a reference to the painting of the same name by Wassily Kandinsky. The film features an exact copy of it, made by the author's father in the late 80s.

LA CHANSON

"La Chanson" is a documentary video sketch that ironically depicts the construction process of a new housing estate. At the meeting point of "low" and "high", "ordinary" and "sublime", creates a grotesque pathetic picture of Khmelnytskyi industrial everyday life, which amazes with its elegance and absurdity at the same time.

This film is a reminiscence. An attempt to restore the former connection between shreds of smoldering recollections, scattered fragments of rebellious celluloid memory. Recall the walls, the faces... and save them for history. Remember "The Nest".

DOCUSERIES ABOUT PASHA IN THE WELL

Mockumentary films tell a story about the character named Pasha (he doesn't show his face or say any words) and his two friends who thought that he stays in the well and can't get out. Friends visit Pasha and try to help him regularly. The story about a fictional person gradually turns into total absurd: boys lose touch with reality, and it's obscure and erratic narrative just falls into pieces of incomprehensible phrases and actions that, in turn, can't give Pasha hope of salvation.

Dana Kavelina’s animated film "The Lemberg Machine" (2023) addresses the Lemberg (present-day Lviv) pogroms of June and July 1941 in the context of the Nazi occupation. Kavelina tells a story that has been rewritten from the perspective of the resurrected victims, based on eyewitness accounts from survivors.

Can these beautiful and brave women who have never wear a pants, save their traditional family values from the threats of the outside world? You will find an answer by watching their adventures.
