Common questions
Why will my MKV or WebM file not import or play?
MX Player currently targets media supported by Apple's iOS media frameworks. For the most reliable playback, use H.264 or HEVC video with AAC audio in an MP4, MOV, or M4V container. MKV and WebM are not currently supported.
Where are imported videos stored?
Imported files are kept in MX Player's private on-device storage for offline playback. They are not uploaded to the developer. Keep a separate backup of important originals.
How do I add subtitles?
Open a video, tap Subtitles, and choose a compatible embedded track or import an external SRT or VTT file.
How do I translate subtitles?
On iOS 18 or later, import an SRT or VTT file, open Subtitles, and select Translate. If a language is unavailable, download it using Apple's translation settings and try again. Translation is not shown for embedded or live subtitle tracks.
Why is Picture in Picture unavailable?
Picture in Picture requires a supported physical device, compatible media, and system permission. Simulator behavior may differ from a real device.
Does MX Player collect my data?
The developer does not operate an account, advertising, analytics, or media-upload backend for MX Player. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
