Contour Flowers - Lines as Edges

Essential Question(s):

  • How can lines create edges?

Targets:

  • Students will:

    • Find and describe lines in the environment and in artworks.

    • Practice creating a line drawing from observing flowers.

    • Create a line drawing (contour) of a flower. Outline with glue and then add color using pastels.

    • I can critique my artwork and others by:

      • Describe: Tell exactly what you see ( Who is the artist? What year was it created? Do not use value words such as ugly or pretty).

      • Analyze: Use the elements of art and principles of design to reflect upon the artwork.

      • Interpret: What is the artist trying to say? Why was the artwork created in that style? What are the historical events (if any) during that time period? Is there any symbolic meaning?

      • Judge: Is it a successful artwork? Is it important? Do you like it? How does it make you feel?
