Meet the Team

Who are we? We are a group of students from several surrounding towns, including Lowell, Dracut, Tewksbury, Salem, Chelmsford, and Methuen. We are lucky to be mentored by several engineers and professionals from several local companies including Analog Devices, Kronos, L-3, IBM, Amazon Robotics, and Middlesex Community College. Together we are 5962 - perSEVERE.

Meet Our Amazing Mentors

Position on the Team: Lead Mentor

Occupation: Software Systems Engineering Manager at Analog Devices

Bio: Mike is the President of Merrimack Valley Robotics, Inc, as well as the Treasurer for Cub Scout Pack 8 in Dracut. He is currently working on a Master of Engineering Management degree at UMass Lowell. He is a veteran of the US Air Force, working in the Air Force Technical Applications Center. In his spare time, he likes to...wait, what is spare time?

Mike Riendeau

Position on the Team: Mentor

Occupation: Sr. Software Design Engineer at Analog Devices; Treasurer of Merrimack Valley Robotics

Bio: He is a Senior Software Design Engineer at Analog Devices. He is an electrical mentor on the team. He is also the treasurer of Merrimack Valley Robotics.

David Satterfield

Position on the team: Electrical Mentor

Occupation: Chip Designer at IBM

Bio: He has been a chip designer for supercomputers for 30 years. A graduate of Tufts University, he has won the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, and holds several patents. In his spare time, he likes to listen to and play music and tinker with things. He also likes to go rafting on any body of water that moves. He loves his Hammond organ which he refurbished himself and Dr. Strangelove. He is the father of seven children.

David LeMasurier

Position on the Team: Software Mentor

Occupation: Engineering Manager at Kronos

Bio: He is the lead software mentor and an engineering manager at Kronos. In his spare, time he coaches soccer and spends time with his family.

Alexander Brunelle

Position on the Team: Mechanical Mentor, Drive Coach

Occupation: Drafter at L-3

Bio: Alex is the lead mechanical mentor and drive coach for the team. He is a drafter at L-3 and an alum from FRC Team 166, Chop Shop. Previously he helped to mentor 166 before our team's existence. His favorite color is silver and his favorite food is spaghetti or anything Italian.

Anthony Iarrapino

Position on the team: Mentor

Occupation: Professor at Middlesex Community College

Bio: He is a professor of Engineering and CAD at Middlesex Community College. He was also an engineering teacher at Lowell High School for over a decade. He also worked at several companies including Analog Devices. As an Italian, he loves pasta.

Jamie Nicolas

Position on the team: Mentor

Occupation: Product Engineer at Analog Devices

Bio: Jamie is a Product Engineer and Program Manager in the Healthcare Imaging group at Analog Devices. She graduated from the University of Maine and has a Bachelors and Masters degree in Electrical Engineering. In her free time, she likes to swim, play disc golf, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, and projects on her house in Woburn. Jamie is an alumni of FRC Team #58, the Riot Crew.

Casen Megna

Position on the team: Mechanical & CAD Mentor

Occupation: Student at UMass Lowell, Makerspace manager

Bio: He is a mechanical engineering student at UMass Lowell and an alum from Windham Windup 3467. This is his first year mentoring the team as a mechanical mentor.


Greg LeMasurier

Position on the team: Software Mentor

Occupation: Student at UMass Lowell

Bio: He is an alum from perSEVERE 5962 and is a computer science major at UMass Lowell.

Pratheeba Thangavel

Position on the team: Software Mentor

Occupation: Software Engineer at Amazon Robotics

Bio: She is a software engineer on an advanced robotics research team. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her two kids and listening to music.


Meet the Students

Connor Johnston

Grade: 12

School: Dracut High School

Position on the Team: Team Captain

Bio: He is a senior at Dracut High School and will be a part of UMass Lowell's Computer Science program. He has been a captain on the team for two years. In his spare time he is an avid pc gamer. His favorite color is blue and his favorite movie is "The Empire Strikes Back."

Jeremy Rojas

Grade: 12

School: Lowell High School

Position on the Team: Team Captain

Bio: With a background in computers, his interests as a child included electricity and building things. Those interests were combined with robotics, and he hopes to use the skills he learns in the future. In his spare time he likes to draw and play video games.

Emily Satterfield

Grade: 11

School: Lowell High School

Position on the team: Electrical Lead

Bio: She is a student in Lowell High's Latin Lyceum. She loves her dog, Chip, and has a twin sister along with 5 other siblings. Her favorite thing about robotics is helping others to learn things they didn't think they could. In her spare time she is on math team, volunteers, and swims for her school.

Jeffrey LeMasurier

Grade: 11

School: Dracut High School

Position on the Team: Mechanical Lead

Bio: He is a junior at Dracut High School. He loves to build things, especially robots. When he is not at FIRST, he is at VEX for his school or playing video games. He has been the mechanical lead for two years.

John Mersereau

Grade: 12

School: Presentation of Mary Academy

Position on the Team: Software Lead, Drive Team

Bio: John is the software lead on the team and drove us to several victories with his amazing driving skills. He also wrote a scouting program and held an autonomous competition for the team. He has three sisters and three dogs. His favorite video game is Wii Sports.

Yash Patel

Grade: 11

School: Lowell High School

Position on the team: Safety Captain

Bio: He is a member of the Lowell Lyceum of 2018 and has been a part of the team for two years. When he is at meetings he enjoys doing mechanical or planning. He always has a smile on his face and is laughing. He has a huge appetite, especially for chips. He also has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and swims for LHS. He likes anime and games.

Shivam Desai

Grade: 8

School: Wang Middle School

Position on the Team: Mechanical/Software, Student, Drive Team

Bio: He is an eighth grader at the Wang Middle School. When he is not at robotics, he enjoys playing volleyball and being a part of his school's knowledge bowl team and STEM club. Though he has only been on the team for a year, he has shown great aptitude for fundraising and also hopes to join software.

Angenie Pang

Grade: 11

School: Lowell High School

Position on the Team: Mechanical/Electrical Student

Bio: She is a junior in the Lowell Latin Lyceum. After her first year on the team she realized her incredible skills in pulling things all together and making them suitable for companies and judges to see. She is also a wonderful business person.

Amanda Satterfield

Grade: 11

School: Lowell High School

Position on the team: Mechanical/Electrical Student

Bio: She is a junior in the Lowell Latin Lyceum Program and this was her first year on the team. Though she did mostly mechanical, next year she hopes to join software. She has a twin sister who is also on the team and five other siblings. In her spare time, she enjoys playing the piano and the cello and is a member of Lowell High School's marching band, string ensemble, and jazz band.

Raj Patel

Position on the Team: Software Student, Drive Team

Bio: Raj Patel is a senior at Lowell High School. He has been a member of the software team for two years, and was on this year's drive team. He is on the school volleyball team.

Bio: He is a senior at Chelmsford High School. In his two years on the team, he has been a part of the mechanical team.

Bio: He is a senior in the Lowell Latin Lyceum. After being on the software team for a year, he joined the mechanical team. He will be pursuing mechanical engineering in college.

Bio: He is a senior a Lowell High School and his favorite color is blue. In his spare time he likes to play video games and he likes big robots. He likes the movie "Iron Man."

Role on the Team: Mechanical Student

Bio: She is a freshman at Methuen High School. She is a member of the field hockey and track teams. She joined the team after attending our Women in Engineering Event. She likes mechanical and electrical. She named the gear manipulator "Samantha."

Nate Polgreen

Grade: 11

School: Lowell High School

Position on the Team: Mechanical Student

Bio: He is a junior at Lowell High School. His favorite part about robotics is that it is hands-on. In his spare time, he likes to build computers and play games. He is also a member of Lowell High's crew and swim teams.

Khushil Bhagat

Grade: 10

School: Lowell High School

Position on the Team: Mechanical Student

Bio: He is a sophomore at Lowell High School.

Katherine Huang

Grade: 10

School: Lowell High School

Position on the Team: Software Student

Bio: She is a sophomore in the Lowell Latin Lyceum. Though this is her first year on the team, she is excited to learn more. Her favorite color is black, and in her free time she enjoys running and drawing.

Lilia Dean

Grade: 9

School: Chelmsford High School

Role on the Team: Student

Bio: She is a freshman at Chelmsford High School. She runs cross country and track and is a pole vaulter. She is also a member of the High School orchestra and enjoys listening to music.


Cole Hugus

Grade: 10

School: Methuen High School

Role on the Team: Mechanical Student

Bio: He is a sophomore a Methuen High School. He enjoys fishing and surfing. He is a member of JROTC at his school.
