If in doubt, kill it from far away. Cherry Monsoon was built to unleash a truly hideous level of firepower from a staggering distance, and it succeeds. The main design choices were around being able to deliver maximum damage from maximum range, sacrificing little to nothing in defence or mobility. The MVEX is equipped with twin High-Energy Plasma Blades in its hands, and the truly magnificent addition of the remote-controlled artillery drones called 'Raindrops' launched from the wing-like mountings sprouting from its shoulders. Cherry Monsoon is an amazing sight to behold in combat, with red flashes of light twisting into geometric patterns before ultimately focussing in on their target and obliterating it.
In order to control and co-ordinate the remote-controlled drones, the designers of the MVEX built a system that taps directly into the pilot's brainwaves and neural pathways, allowing for spatial perception and control. Due to the power requirements and the refusal of Vos Industries to provide working prototypes, it has only ever been tested at a small scale with one or two Raindrops, and speculation is rife as to how it will function if ever it is needed

Whether you're military or street, you've always been a risk-taker with an intense dislike for authority. Your family despaired, your work life has been a challenge to say the least.
But at least you have a good time.
You're known to be a wild card, with your own damn opinion on how things work and how things should be, and to hell with anyone who tries to tell you what to do. You applied for the program and were utterly overjoyed to discover you were suitable and would be piloting Cherry Monsoon. Now was your time to show everyone in the world just how damn good you really are. Just remember - the cameras love you almost as much as you love them.
Whilst all over the world, people argue about which MVEX is Irresistable Force, few even try to suggest that the crown of Immovable Object sits anywhere but the Diamond Edge. It is a veritable fortress of Xanderstaal, built with detachable armour plates to avoid making the replacement and rearming process too arduous. Despite the weight of the MVEX, due to the oversized and highly advanced power cores, Diamond Edge sacrifices very little speed and manoeuvrability to achieve its defensive capabilities.
Balancing the varying power levels that came from the power cores and spreading them across the various systems proved impossible to manage automatically or manually. Thus, the engineers were forced to build a neural interfacing system that allowed the pilot to instinctively manage the power levels. Armed with a brutal array of explosive rocket launchers and the famed 'Blaster Sword' for when it goes toe to toe with one of its monstrous opponents, when Diamond Edge stands tall there is little that can even dream of bring it to its knees.

You're from a small town or village fuelled solely by working in the local mines or fields (or some other basic industry), a thankless and horrible job that nonetheless you've always known is necessary. You have always prioritised people over property, and probably are fairly well-liked in your community for your selfless acts of heroism, even before it happened.
Of course you volunteered to be tested, almost everyone you knew did. When the time came and you were the Chosen One, you weren't quite sure what to do, or how to be, until you were assigned a military minder and contact, a grinning face who told you what to say and when. The military and the press filled your home village, vignettes and videos about you splattered across the news, and you were lauded as a hero.
Now you're the pilot of Diamond Edge, the pride of the NEU.
The incredibly advanced technology fitted to Infernus Rex builds a symbiotic relationship with the pilot's nervous system. The pilot's senses and physicality are embodied as they become an avatar of sorts - they feel the armour as their skin, they see clearly through the sensor eyes, and feel the pain as it is struck. This technology, unique to the Unified Northern & Arctic Sectors, is often used in smaller combat mechs to great effect, particularly in reconnaissance scenarios. Colloquially called the 'Crying Angels' for the blood that trickles from their eyes and noses after every mission, the Bleeding Edge system pilots suffer from short operational lifespans before being found one day, dead in their cockpit.
Infernus Rex is fitted with an arm-mounted, flame-based Hellfire Projector, and also utilises a series of high-temperature, laser-powered melee and short-ranged weapons for close combat. Deep in its chest is the as-yet untested overdrive system, named by its creators as the Volcano Cannon. Nobody has managed to provide enough power to the MVEX to actually activate the oversized monstrosity that it bears in its chest, and speculation is rife as to what would actually happen if ever it is fired.

You were guilty as all hell. At least that's what the judge said. Whatever it was, or however many, you were a lifer now, in the depths of one of the darkest and nastiest gang-run prisons in the entire damn UNAS. Since you were never getting out, it didn't matter what you did inside.
When they came around for bloodtests, you were as surprised as anyone to find out you're apparently suitable to pilot one of the giant killing machines called MVEX. Whatever your crime; whether you're looking for redemption or escape, one thing is for sure: you damn well didn't get to make the decision to join this project.
Kraken Oni is a marvel of engineering, twisting through sky and water and flowing along the ground with a grace seemingly impossible for a machine of its size and might. The sensory suite declared appropriate by Direct Democracy is beyond anything ever seen by humanity. Such staggering power comes at a cost, as the creators were forced to use old, abandoned mechaneurosensory integration techniques to allow the pilot to parse and process the incredible information and feeling that feeds back from the MVEX.
Early reports indicate that the MSI techniques have proven effective despite the risks to the pilot, as the records from Kraken Oni's initial test runs have been published and are nothing short of astonishing. Whilst the twin Shock Rifles powered by the Chikara power systems are potent indeed, it is the adaptable rocketry/torpedo systems that have really set the MVEX apart. This six-armed figure draws flowing, stylised calligraphy of destruction across the battlefield, and looks likely to live up to the legend of its name and be an unstoppable beast of war.

Whether you're military, police, or other uniformed service, that service is all you’ve ever known. Coming from a long line of dedicated service people you feel that it is your duty to continue the fine legacy of your family.
All personnel were tested for suitability and you found it your honour to be selected to pilot Kraken Oni - the only MVEX (giant robots known in your nation as Oni) designed to be as able below the oceans as above it. You didn't want to let the sudden fame get to you, but you were required by a public vote to make appearances and set an example for others.
There's many ways to be a professional. Be it cold or warm, open or closed, chatty or silent, mentor or solo. But above all there is a job to be done.
The word fast would be an insult to the blinding ferocity and celerity of Wraith Gear's assault. With new technology created to allow the pilot to remain conscious despite the horrifying accelerations, the whirring beast flits across the battlefield like a vicious cross between a hummingbird and a scimitar. It flashes from perfect stillness to perfect stillness with the human eye barely able to follow, all made possible by recent upgrades to the piloting technology that allows the pilot to link their entire central nervous system to the MVEX itself.
Sacrifices must be made for such speed, and it is known that Wraith Gear is not quite as sturdy as its fellows due to delicate instrumentation and exposed equipment. It is fitted with twin assault rifles for devastatingly rapid firepower, and reinforced Xanderstaal weaponry on shoulders and feet to deliver astonishingly powerful blows at melee range.

You're new. You've never been in combat before, you've never been in the military. Whether you're a willing draft or a guilt trip or a strongarm, you're brand new to anything and everything military. Thrust into the limelight, you're the pilot of the Wraith Gear, the fastest and most agile MVEX of them all. You've met the monarch, and had photos and publicity with half the Royal Family, and now you're apparently expected to save the world.
Maybe you can learn from one of these other pilots. Maybe you'll try to develop your own path. Regardless, you're fresh and new, and realistically have no idea what you're actually doing. Wherever you're from, whatever you're like, you know only one thing - you're the rookie.
The Scanner
From AAA
When monsters are abroad, someone needs to find out about them lest the MVEX pilots fly in blind and get smashed to pieces.
The Scanner's role is to keep track of what the monsters are and where they're going. As the only person permitted to interact with Vos Industries scanning technology, the Scanner has the job of prioritising which monsters the MVEX team will know most about.
The Scanner's systems not only tell the MVEX team where the monsters are going and when they're going to arrive, but also has the capability to scan keywords from the monsters.
Keywords form the basis of the battle system in MVEX. Some keywords interact with some MVEX in different ways, and some keywords may even prove dangerous to the pilots themselves.
The Scanner, of the command staff, has the least busy and stressful of the roles, but can expect to be at the centre of many discussions by sheer dint of being the one who controls the flow of information.
The Researcher
From LAR
In the MVEX command room, your role is to discover as much as you can about the kaiju, to develop blueprints and to research ways to improve the MVEX. As you are the only person permitted to make changes to the research screen and systems, you undertake an absolutely vital role.
You'll use Research Opportunities and your Research screen to navigate the research pathways to improve the MVEX's chances in battle. You might also have chance to look into other things around the world.
This role is one of the more cerebral and involves reading, analysis and a little bit of maths if you plan to be as effective as possible. It's a different kind of stress, and everyone will want what you have.
The Diplomat
From UNAS and NEU
The world is full of people with opinions and problems, and nations with resources. Someone needs to be on the end of the phone.
Two diplomats make up the voice of the MVEX project to the outside world. Each of them has responsibility for three entities, including their own nation, and one has responsibility for communicating with the secretive Shadow Cartel.
Diplomats receive calls constantly, with demands, pleading, threats and cajolery, and its their job to smooth things over, negotiate deals and generally make sure that the right wheels are greased in the right way. These hardy folks can expect short shrift from nations who are finding their cities sacrificed to monsters in favour of othe
Diplomat is to be considered one of the more busy roles, and does require the use of a mobile phone at fairly great length. It's also one role where it's very easy to get blamed for everything.
The Engineer
From PAA
In the MVEX command room, your job is to manage the allocation of engineers to MVEX repairs and creation of assets for use with the MVEX or against the monsters. As the only person on the team permitted to allocate engineers and start new engineering projects, you're an absolutely vital part of the machine.
You'll use Asset Blueprints and your Engineering screen to embrace or defy efficiency in your goal of making sure the giant, mechanical beasts of war are ready for combat. You might make one-shot items, develop long term projects or even dabble in things outside of the MVEX project itself.
This role is one of the busier ones, since everyone and everything will be asking for your vital resources. Not least because the pilots will want their MVEX repaired to go out and fight again. It also includes some maths.
