THE BLINDNESS OF THE REAL IN A HYPERCONNECTED SOCIETY

Text: WOMAN: Trees are burning, polluted air, the world is dying.

MAN: In my opinion everything looks perfect.

To better understand the meaning of the work, we need firstly analyse what it shows. We can see a man with virtual reality glasses, while another person is bringing a question about the situation of the world. Since he wasn't seeing the reality, just what is in your reality-bubble, one interpretation could be a metaphor of Plato’s Cave, because the person don´t wanna get out the Cave, whereas he`s in your comfort zone. This zone is symbolized by the virtual reality glasses.

When we look to the window, we have an example of the reality with the fire situation- Represented by the dried tree-. This alludes to the fire at brasilian pantanal. However, we can't just not see the metaphorics interpretation of it, because the fire means the situation of our society, and we see a big indifference regarding the dried tree. This represents the many social, political and economic barriers in our society. In this way, allied with demodulated and unobjected use of the internet, generates a huge social alienation.
