In 256 BC, during the Warring States period, Li Bing, the governor of the Shu commandery in the Qin state, led the construction of the Dujiangyan water management project. It's located on the Min River on the west side of the city of Dujiangyan, in the western part of the Chengdu Plain, Sichuan, about 56 kilometers from Chengdu. This large-scale water project still helps irrigate farmland and has greatly benefited the population. It's known for its long history and dam-free water diversion, and is considered the origin of global water engineering culture.
