Noble coat of arms of the Protonobilissimos and the Pignatellis on majolica (respectively 16th and 17th century)

In 1438, Giannantonio Orsini del Balzo granted the Protonobilissimos (from Amalfi) the princedom of Muro. "Faccipecora" (literally, "face of sheep"), as they were called, run Muro for more than four centuries, until Giovan Battista IV died in 1774 without heirs, leaving the estate to the Pignatellis.
