On March 31, members of PRSSA partnered with the Murray Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) to host an engaging and hands-on Pitch Party, bringing together students from multiple disciplines for a night of creative collaboration.
The event welcomed participation from PRSSA members, the Advertising Club, and public relations capstone students, all of whom worked together to apply classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios. Attendees were challenged to think critically and creatively as they developed strategic ideas and campaign pitches in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Throughout the evening, students explored a variety of timely and thought-provoking topics, including reputation challenges surrounding The Bachelorette, discussions on cultural awareness inspired by America’s Next Top Model, and creative strategies and tactics to market a the new MacBook Neo. These exercises allowed students to strengthen their skills in messaging, branding, and audience engagement.
At the conclusion of the Pitch Party, judges selected a winning team. First place went to Gretchen Beatty, Jada Poindexter, Jasira Jouett, and Derek Hess, who each received a $10 Walmart gift card. Judges noted that scores were very close and expressed that they were impressed with the creativity and professionalism displayed by all teams.
“This event truly gave students the opportunity to step outside the classroom and experience what it’s like to think and work as professionals in the field,” said Dr. Marcie Hinton, PRSSA Mentor. “It was exciting to see their ideas come to life in such a collaborative setting.”
The Pitch Party was led with continued support from CVB Director Erin Carrico and Marketing Director Brittany Kenner, both of whom have been long-standing partners and advocates for student development. Their involvement has helped create meaningful opportunities for students to gain practical experience and build professional connections.
PRSSA remains committed to fostering relationships within the community and creating interactive events that prepare students for careers in public relations and related fields. The organization looks forward to continuing its collaboration with local partners to provide innovative and impactful learning experiences.
