The Murray State University chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) welcomed alumna Heather Watkins (’08) as the guest speaker at its meeting on Thursday, September 18. Watkins, a former PRSSA member and current recruiter for CFSB Bank, shared her professional expertise in a presentation titled “From Campus to Career: Stepping into Professionalism.”
Her presentation offered members valuable insight into the hiring process from a recruiter’s perspective. Watkins discussed what she looks for in potential candidates, how interviewers think when evaluating applicants, and practical steps students can take to stand out in the job market. She emphasized the importance of networking and reassured members that they are already on the right path by engaging with guest speakers and building professional connections.
Throughout her talk, Watkins covered a wide range of topics including preparing for the job market, navigating the interview process, onboarding with confidence, building and advancing a career, and leading with purpose. Members walked away with actionable advice and a better understanding of how to approach their career search with professionalism and confidence.
