I am a Post Doctorate Fellow in Economics at Stellenbosch University, affiliated with the Laboratory for the Economics of Africa's Past, and an Ordinary Board Member of the Economic History Society of Southern Africa (EHSSA). My research is conducted under the guidance of Professor Johan Fourie and Dr Edward Kerby.
My research investigates historical capital markets, joint-stock companies and investor networks in southern Africa through archival and quantitative methods, with a broader interest in business history, financial history and historical political economy. My work combines large-scale archival research with quantitative methods, including the construction of original datasets from historical sources.
I have received support from the Henry Kaufman Research Fellowship (Business History Conference), the Harvard University History Project Grant, the Beit Trust Scholarship, and the Andrew Mellon Fellowship at LEAP. My research has been presented at venues including the World Economic History Congress and the African Economic History Network, and new work is forthcoming in the Journal of Southern African Studies.
