Muhammad Islam is currently working as an associate lecturer/lead tutor (casual) and research fellow (casual) at Swinburne University of Technology, Australia, and Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia, respectively. Previously, he worked as a casual Research Assistant at Deakin University Melbourne, Australia. He has done his PhD from Swinburne University of Technology Melbourne, Australia in Aug 2022. Furthermore, he completed his Master degree from COMSATS University Islamabad, Wah campus, Pakistan in 2017 with a CGPA of 3.89/4. Moreover, he achieved his undergrad degree with distinction from COMSATS University Islamabad in 2015. He was awarded two silver medals for securing a CGPA of 3.88/4 throughout the campus and Institute. 

He has over 5 years of teaching experience including the last 4 years at well-known Universitities of Australia. He has a demonstrated track record of recognized teaching in computer science. Similarly, he served at University of Lahore, Pakistan as a Lecturer for 6 months. He also served as a Lab Engineer at Air University Multan campus, Pakistan for 1 year.

His broad research interests include privacy preservation, differential privacy, blockchain, mobile edge computing, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and wireless sensor networks. Currently, he is working on the integration of blockchain and edge computing to enahce execution speed of mobile devices through transparent resource sharing. He is serving as a review editor for frontiers in blockchain. He is also a reviewer of various top journals such as IEEE Communication Surveys & Tutorials, ITU Journal on Future and Evolving Technologies, Digital Communication and Networks, Elsevier, Wireless Networks, KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Systems as well as conferences such as IEEE ICC, IEEE Globecom, IEEE MeditCom, and IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference.
