We (Bangladesh Sustainability Alliance) are honoured to have organised the 'Youth Actions to Combat Plastic Pollution' event in Feni, in collaboration with two of our key members, BRAC and PRAN-RFL Group. The event focused on addressing the plastic pollution challenges triggered by the recent flooding. The day included a youth-led workshop, an 8 km post-flood plastic cleanup along Grand Trunk Road, Feni, and a free medical camp for flood-affected communities.
We successfully engaged 175 youths from 25 local youth groups in rethinking the environmental and health concerns of plastic pollution, motivating them to take immediate individual actions. They are now more aware of the impacts of mismanaged plastics, mitigation measures, and the importance of reducing single-use plastics. During the plastic waste cleanup drive, volunteers collected around 600 kg of roadside plastic, which was sent to a recycling plant, ensuring the waste did not add to environmental burdens. Additionally, we were able to provide health services and medicines to over 110 people.
This initiative highlights the vital role of youth in environmental stewardship and addresses the pressing issue of plastic waste in post-flood recovery efforts. Together, we are raising awareness and fostering sustainable waste management practices to build a greener, healthier Bangladesh!
