What is Thai Boxing?

Thai Boxing or Muay Thai is a combat sport originating in Thailand that uses standing strikes combined with various clinch techniques.

The discipline is known as the "art of eight limbs" because it is characterized by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees and shins.

This style of boxing therefore offers great freedom in its practice.

Thai Boxing is a rich and complete sport, which has become popular among all social classes.

It is integrated as one of the essential components of modern martial arts and is widely used among mixed martial arts fighters.

What will Thai Boxing classes do for you?

Thai Boxing classes are a total body workout and provide many benefits to both your body and your psychological well-being:

Endurance, muscle tone and cardio

You will quickly notice effects on weight loss and muscle tone. Involving many muscle groups, Thai Boxing is an excellent way to get rid of stubborn fat, tone up your muscles while improving your flexibility and strengthening your entire body. You will gradually notice an improvement in your endurance, your figure and your cardiovascular health.

Stress and self-confidence

After a long day of work, you will be able to release all your stress and effectively channel all your negative energy, feeling fully energized after your workout.

Beyond the self-defense techniques and the feeling of being better armed in case of aggression, Thai Boxing also teaches you to stay calm, to think strategically and to regain a certain form of courage in the face of the opponent, both literally and figuratively. Thai Boxing gives you the confidence to react in any difficult situation.

Is Thai Boxing effective in case of aggression?

Absolutely. Unlike some martial arts that focus on complex movements, Thai Boxing focuses on the most direct means of inflicting damage on your attackers: hitting them hard and effectively.

In a self-defense situation, when the more reflective part of your brain stops working and your "reptilian brain" kicks in, you probably won't be able to remember techniques that are too complex. On the other hand, your reflexes acquired during Thai Boxing classes will allow you to quickly get out of a difficult situation.

However, I take the reflection and the pedagogy to the street fight. Your Thai Boxing classes will give you the self-discipline and confidence to avoid such situations, which is certainly the best way to avoid conflict.

Is Thai Boxing more effective than boxing?

English boxing uses only your two fists.

In Thai Boxing, you use both fists, elbows, knees and feet, so you have eight weapons instead of one.

How are the classes at the Thai Boxing Club in Chiang Mai?

Your Thai Boxing personal trainer class welcomes you in Chiang Mai in a gym or in the open air in the place or park of your choice.

I start each class with a warm-up and dynamic stretching to prevent injuries during the training.

Each class lasts from 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes, which allows us to dive into the technique and then apply it in the form of specific themes or sparring.

No two trainings are alike and you will work on all facets of the discipline, from mirror training, specific themes, conditioning, themed sparring, free sparring and bear paw/pao work.
