Economics student-researchers took part in an academic gathering as they presented their thesis paper, “𝑨𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑬𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝑮𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒐𝒏 𝑻𝒐𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒄𝒐 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒖𝒎𝒑𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏: 𝑫𝒐 𝑹𝒆𝒈𝒖𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝑹𝒆𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒆 𝑼𝒔𝒆?”, at the 1st International Conference on Social Development and Sustainability and the Philippine Human Ecology Consortium Conference.

Held from November 18–19, 2025, at the Farmers Training Center, Central Mindanao University, Musuan, Maramag, Bukidnon, the conference carried the theme “Social Development and Sustainability for Human-Ecological Well-being.” It convened scholars, practitioners, and students dedicated to shaping sustainable and socially responsive communities. Organized by UP Los Baños Department of Social Development Studies in partnership with Central Mindanao University and the Philippine Human Ecology Consortium, the conference provided a platform for sharing research, best practices, and innovative solutions that advance sustainable and resilient communities.

The team’s research explored the effectiveness of government regulations in reducing tobacco use—an important contribution to public health discourse and evidence-based policymaking. Their participation demonstrated not only academic rigor but also their commitment to addressing pressing socio-economic issues.

Their presentation stands as a testament to the growing engagement of young economists in national and global sustainability conversations.
