The Geometry course is the second of three math courses students will be taking through their high school career that ends in a statewide Common Core Regents Exam. During this course, students will develop tools and ways of thinking that can be applied to a variety of disciplines, including but not limited to science, business, social sciences, fine arts and technology. By the end of this course, students will be able to apply learned skills, processes, and a variety of techniques to solve problems successfully in a variety of settings.
This course is designed to provide students with the continued opportunity to develop an understanding of algebraic concepts, leading to taking Algebra I in high school. Emphasis is placed on operations with rational numbers, solving algebraic equations, and understanding linear, exponential, and quadratic relationships through tables, graphs, and equations. The course will also address functions, geometry, and statistics and probability, with the application of these skills and concepts in a problem-solving context.
