Currently certified officers
For those who are currently certified Law Enforcement Officers in the State of Maine or from another state, you may be eligible to become a Trooper at our Lateral Advanced Training Program:
Must pass the Cooper Physical Fitness Test at the 50th percentile
6 Week mostly Non-Residential Training Troop
There will be a few training nights at the RTT you will know well in advance, for example Firearms and EVOC Range weeks will have some night training
Majority of the training is Monday - Friday from 0800 to 1600

If you are new to law enforcement we are looking forward to seeing whether you have what it takes to become a Maine State Police Trooper and giving you all the training you need to be successful:
18 Week Residential Basic Law Enforcement Program (BLETP)
6 Week Non-Residential Training Troop (RTT)

Tactical Team - one full-time time team commander, two full-time assistant commanders, 9 full-time operators and an additional team of operators with collateral patrol/investigative assignments
Crisis Negotiation Team, C.N.T. - team of operators and one full-time team commander
Underwater Recovery Team, U.R.T. - team of operators and one full-time team commander
Bomb Team - team of operators and one full-time team commander
Firearms Training Unit - team of instructors and two full-time team commanders
K9 Unit - team of operators with 23 K9 partners and two full-time instructors/team commanders
Crash Reconstruction - team of specialists including two full-time specialists and one full-time team commander
Evidence Response Team, E.R.T. - team of operators and one full-time team commander
Air Wing - two full-time pilots
State Police Impaired Driving Enforcement Team, S.P.I.D.R.E. - team of specialists and one full-time specialist
Crowd Management Team, C.M.T. - team of operators
Emergency Vehicle Operator Course, E.V.O.C. - team of instructors
Honor Guard - team of specialists
Incident Management Assistance Team, I.M.A.T - team of specialists

Base Salary: $65,166 - $90,542 (this salary payscale excludes $.85 hourly stipend and does not include any additional collective bargaining stipends or special pay)

Please Note: Certified law enforcement officers with 1-4 years on begin at step 1 of Pay Grade 23. Certified law enforcement officers with 5-9 years on begin at step 5 of Pay Grade 23. Certified law enforcement officers with more than 9 years begin at step 6 of Pay Grade 23.

A 25-year retirement system with an employee contribution of only 1.15% (remainder is paid by the State). Troopers retire at 50% of their maximum salary while employees working over 25 years receive an additional 2% of retirement pay for each additional year worked beyond 25 years
Full medical insurance is included with your retirement benefit
Clothing or uniform cleaning allowance of $65 per month;
Cell phone allowance of $60.00 per month, paid semi-annually;
Night shift differential of either $.45 or $.55 per hour;
Weekend differential of $.60 per hour;
College degree incentive that includes an hourly stipend of $0.24 for an Associate degree, $0.36 for a Bachelor degree and $0.48 for a Masters or higher degree;
State paid health and dental benefits;
Paid sick leave earned at one day per month;
Paid vacation leave starting at one day per month to a maximum of 2 days per month based on seniority;
Promotional opportunities based on ability, education and seniority;
Each trooper has an opportunity for a wide array of specialized career paths with lateral mobility.
Gym Membership Reimbursement – Improve overall health with regular exercise and receive up to $40 per month to offset this expense.
Potential to buy back 4 years of military service
