Multiscale Structural Materials Lab investigates materials' deformation and mechanical properties influenced by the interplay of size, microstructure, geometry, and environmental conditions. We explore the intrinsic mechanical properties of materials at the nano- and microscale and connect these insights to their macroscopic mechanical performance. Our research spans multiple length scales, focusing on advanced structural materials—from high-strength alloys to architected and structured materials—designed to surpass the mechanical limits of traditional materials. We study their behavior under extreme conditions, including irradiation, electric current, temperature variations, pressure, and high strain rates.
