Dr. M. Shamim Kaiser is a Professor at the Institute of Information Technology, Jahangirnagar University, Savar, Dhaka-1342, Bangladesh. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Applied Physics, Electronics, and Communication Engineering from the University of Dhaka in 2002 and 2004, respectively, and completed his Ph.D. in Telecommunication Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand, in 2010.
He served as a postdoctoral fellow in the Big Data and Cyber Security Lab at Anglia Ruskin University, UK (2017–2018), and the Systems Research Group, Dept of Computer Science and Technology, Cambridge University, UK and also served as a Special Research Student at the Wireless Signal Processing and Networking Lab (Adachi Lab) at Tohoku University, Japan, in 2008.
Dr. Kaiser leads the Advanced Intelligence, Informatics and Smart Transformation (AI2ST) Research Group, one of the leading research groups in Jahangirnagar University dedicated to cutting-edge research in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computational Neuroscience, Big Data Analytics, Cyber Security, Cloud Computing, Multi-hop High-Speed Communication, and Smart Healthcare Systems. His group’s work supports several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly: Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being, Goal 4: Quality Education, Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities, Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
He has authored over 350+ peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, book chapters, and books, and supervised 5 Ph.D. scholars, 15 Master’s students, and 20 undergraduate theses/projects to completion. He is also involved in several funded research initiatives, including two EU-funded projects and nine government-funded projects.
Dr. Kaiser has been recognized as the Best Computer Scientist in Bangladesh by Research.com (2024, 2015) and has been consistently ranked in the Top 2% of Scientists in the World by Stanford University, USA, in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
He currently serves as an Academic Editor of PLOS ONE, Associate Editor of IEEE Access and Cognitive Computation, and Guest Editor for several high-impact journals including Brain Informatics, Frontiers in Neuroinformatics, IJACI (IGI Global), and Electronics (MDPI). He is a Senior Member of IEEE (USA) and IEICE (Japan), a Life Member of the Bangladesh Electronic Society, Bangladesh Physical Society, and NOAMI, and an active volunteer of the IEEE Bangladesh Section. He is also the founding Chapter Chair of the IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh Chapter.
