About me

I have been teaching right here in E-3 at William L. Sheppard Middle School since 1999. I am from the Bay Area but went to college at Indiana University and then returned to California to teach. I have taught all three grade levels but my preference is 6th grade. I teach both English and Technology. I have also taught PE before. I was out of the classroom for two years as an Instructional Coach but am happy in the classroom with students. I have recently been having a lot of fun with educational technology and am excited to use as technology as a tool in learning.

I married a fellow teacher (one I met at Sheppard) and we have two wonderful daughters, Lily and Daphne. Lily is nine and Daphne is six. They love coming to Sheppard any chance they get to participate in the fun activities here.

I also am the Sheppard Student Council faculty adviser, school testing coordinator and one period resource teacher. I help with the fun activities on campus as part of the Campus Collaborative team and am also one of the Ed Tech liaison. I help organize and lead the Teacher's assistant program and also am a Mouse Squad teacher mentor. I am also in charge of making the weekly announcements - a skill I am hoping I can teach a group of students who can take over the bulk or the work.

I love traveling, reading, movies and animals. My favorite city in the world is Paris, but New York is a close second. I love going to Disneyland with or without my kids and my favorite ride is Thunder Mountain. When I was a kid growing up, I wanted to be an archaeologist and even went on an archaeological dig in high school. Some of my favorite books are the Harry Potter series, Devil in the White City by Erik Larson, and Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving. I am very politically minded and love reading the news every day. I used to be obsessed with learning about the Civil War, the Titanic and the space race - reading everything I could get my hands on about the topics. I even did my college thesis on the heroism of the first astronauts.

Who am I?

I took a personality test and it turns out that I am an executive. It means I am great at managing people. Making up only 11% of the American population, many American presidents are "executives" because they are known for their great leadership skills. James Monroe and Lyndon B. Johnson were both "executives". "Executives" are very strong-willed and dedicated. They are very direct and honest which could be a bad thing sometimes. "Executives" are also loyal, patient and reliable. However, "executives" can be very stubborn and judgmental. It can also be very hard for them to relax of show emotion. That means I don't cry very much! You can see the chart on the side to see which way my personality tends to lean.
