Unwine Ave Bridge, City of Toronto (2023). Structural Assessment single span Bailey Bridge.
McMillan Road Over Fairchild Creek, County of Brant, Contract OPS-RFT-23-06. (2023): Designed the superstructure for the 3-span skewed bridge with reinforced deck over existing steel girders, and GFRP reinforced barrier.
Lorne Bridge, Brantford (2023): Prepared 3D Finite Element Modeling for the 3-span reinforced concrete arch bridge
Bathurst Bridge, City of Toronto (2022): Provided post-fire assessment for the existing bridge.
Ship Channel Bridge, Port of Toronto, Contract 2021-125-03. (2022): Provided structural design for the two approach spans, each is 45 m designed as Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) Reinforced Deck over multi-girder system. Redesigned the retaining walls, piers and abutments. Design followed CHBDC.
Four bridges and Five culverts, Bridge Evaluation, York Region (2021-2022): Provided structural inspection and evaluation for two 3-continuous spans slab on steel girders, two rigid frames, one corrugated steel pipe culvert and four reinforced concrete culverts. (Plinketts Creek Bridge, Humber River Bridge, Laskay Bridge, Weston Road Overpass, Weston Road Concrete Culvert, Weston Road CSP Culvert, Highway 7 Concrete Culvert, Humber River Tributary Culvert, Highway 27 Culvert)
Third Street Bridge, City of Chatham, Contract T20-342. (2020-2021): Provided structural design for the three-spans variable depth steel girder bridge with glass FRP reinforced deck. The design included the reconstruction of new stems for the piers, rehabilitation for the abutments, wingwall, retaining walls and design new sheet pile with tie backs. Construction Cost $13,870,874.30.
York Region, Bridge Load Rating (2021): Provided load rating for (1) Humber River Tributary Culvert; (2) Weston Road Culvert 1 and 2; (4) Highway 7 and 27 culverts; (5) Humber River Bridge at Woodbridge; (6) Laskay Bridge; (7) Plunketts Creek Bridge and (8) Weston Road Bridge Over CNR.
HWY27 Overhead Bridge over CNR (2021): Provided bridge evaluation for placing of road temporary barrier over bridge due to deterioration of the existing steel handrails.
Highland Creek Bridge (Borough of Scarborough), City of Toronto. (2021): Provided structural evaluation for the five continuous span steel box girder bridge based on Chapter 14 of the CHBDC.

Meadowvale Pony Truss Bridge, City of Toronto. (2021): Provided 3D finite element modeling, structural evaluation while considering load posting for the single span truss bridge based on Chapter 14 of the CHBDC.
Ship Channel Bridge, Port of Toronto. (2020): Provided Load Posting as per Chapter 14 of the CHBDC for the multi-girders multi-span approach spans.
Sherbourne Street Bridge Over Rosedale Valley, City of Toronto. (2020): Provided post-fire structural assessment for the steel plate girder bridge and their subsequent reuse after a fire event.
Bayview Bridge, City of Toronto. (2019): Reviewed and calculated the remaining fatigue life estimation for the steel truss bridge while comparing results from various codes including the CHBDC, AASHTO, and AISC.
West Montrose Covered Bridge, City of Waterloo. (2019): Provided structural inspection and evaluation for cracked wooden floor beams due to vehicular over loading and provided solutions to keep bridge open for pedestrians.
Overlea Boulevard Bridge, City of Toronto. (2019): Provided structural evaluation for the 19.05 m x 207.26 m and 5 spans non-composite reinforced concrete deck that is resting over 7 steel girders.
Rathburn Road Bridge, City of Toronto, Contract 19ECE-TI-09BE, (2019-2020): Work including enhanced visual inspection for the substructure and superstructure components, review existing drawings, and design jacking up system under SLS and ULS shoring loads for the 3 single-spans bridge.
Tioga Bridge, City of Simcoe (2019-2020): Provided detailed structural assessment for the prestressed girders, piers & piles, and abutments. Provided structural design for new superstructure for 2 lanes 3-continuous spans composite slab-on-steel girder. Construction Cost $2,811,542
Bailey Creek Bridge, City of Simcoe (2019): Work including detailed structural design for one-span, 2 lanes, 15.24 m long slab-on prestressed NU 900 girders bridge
Archie Duckworth Bridge (Angus Bridge over Nottawasago River, built 1973), City of Simcoe. (2019): Provided detailed structural analysis/evaluation for 2 span bridge subjected to CL-625-ONT truck loading. The bridge was designed to carry the HS20-44 truck and consists of 5 Prestressed CPCI girders type IV resting over a dapped-end-beam (DEB) that is part of the cantilevered portion from the cast-in-place pos-tensioned concrete multi-cell box girders. Analysis also included proposing of the design for RC parapet with steel railing subjected to TL-2 crash loading.
Bailey Creek Bridge, Built 1969 (Township of Adjala), City of Simcoe. (2019): Provided detailed structural analysis/evaluation for one span, 15.24 m long, 2 lanes bridge made of reinforced concrete slab on 4 prestressed AASHO II Girders (Equivalent to CPCI 900) subjected to CL-625-ONT Truck loading.
Reece Bridge, Regional Road 69, Township of West Lincoln. (2018): Provided detailed structural analysis/design for four relocated steel girder bolted splice connections for the new steel bridge that are subjected to ULS, SLS and FLS loadings.
F.G. Gardiner Highway Bridge (Bent 120 to 129), City of Toronto. (2018): Provided detailed structural analysis/evaluation for the reinforced concrete bent beam-columns frame structure to determine their structural capacity-to-demand ratio per CHBDC Section 3.
Indian Line Road Bridge, City of Toronto. (2018-2019): Provided structural review for the existing bridge 22.25 m wide x 15.596 m long slab on 8x CPCI 900 prestressed girders. Work included the detailed structural design for new 15.85 m long rapid bridge replacement made of pair 4 m wide deck resting over 2 steel girders and connected longitudinally with UHPC. Work included modification to existing abutment and to add 2 new wingwalls
F.G. Gardiner Highway Bridge (T-Beam spans – West Abutment to Bent 31), City of Toronto. (2018): Provided detailed structural analysis/evaluation for the concrete T-beam/slab deck and the dapped end beams (DEB) connections. The bridge deck is 26 m wide, with 12 concrete T-girders in each span. The assessment included 11 spans with total length of 207 m, and 15 spans with total length of 283 m. Work included developing Live Load Distribution Factor (LDF), Strut-and-Tie Model for the existing reinforcement of the Dapped End Beams DEBs, and wood shoring for the deck. Report recommended the use of the shotcrete for restoration and/or wood shoring to resist the traffic load of 14.4 kPa.
West Montrose Covered (Heritage) Bridge in Waterloo, Township of Woolich. (2018): Provided detailed structural analysis/evaluation for the two-spans hybrid Howe timber truss covered bridge reinforced by the continuous single-sided Bailey Steel Bridge.
CN Gobles Road Overhead Bridge, Integral Bridge Abutment (2018): Provided detailed structural analysis, 3D FEM, Strut-and-Tie Modeling STM to design the integral reinforced concrete abutment over steel H-piles as per the CHBDC and provided numerical analysis of the pile-soil interaction subjected to combined axial and lateral loadings. Work also included QVE for placement of steel rebars.
Concession Road 7B Cochrane Bridge Renewal, Beam Construction / Municipality of Mississipi Mills. (2018): This included detailed structural analysis and design for the 21.75 m long and 7.1 m wide newly installed 5 adjacent prestressed box girders B800, as per the CHBDC loaded with two CL-625 Trucks.
VIGO Bridge Replacement, County of SIMCOE. (2017): Undertook a Peer Review of a three span, 100 m long / 11.5 m wide slab-on-steel girder bridge. This included developing a 3D Finite Element Model (FEM) for the 3 lanes curved and heavily skewed bridge and its hammerheads using SAP2000. Structural system was subjected to vehicle-structure-interaction in conformance with the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC, CSA-S6). The finite element model examined the primary and secondary bending as well as torsional and distortional warping.
PEDESTRIAN BRIDGES
Joyce Archdekin Pedestrian Bridge Over Etobicoke Creek (Tender T2023-032), Brampton, ON (2023): Provided structural design for a single span bridge with timber deck, and variable depth steel girder to support pedestrian load and maintenance vehicle.
Meadowale Rd Bridge, City of Toronto (2022): Provided detailed inspection for the steel truss bridge, finite element analysis and repair details.
Pedestrian Truss Bridge, OLRT Woodroffe, Ottawa. (2021): Provided structural design for the 4x35.4 m spans truss spans and total length of 143.4 m.
Pedestrian Bridge, Township of Innisfil. (2021): Provided structural design for the abutments
Two pedestrian truss bridges, Ontario Place (2021): The structural included the bridge evaluation due to vehicle impact to pony truss bridge and through truss bridge over the Lakeshore Boulevard at CNE. Extended evaluation included thermal, wind and frequency evaluation for the steel bridges with their middle Concrete Filled Steel Tube (CFST) piers.
Island Platform (Pedestrian Bridge), Metrolinx Hamilton Station, WSP (2017-2019): Provided detailed design services for 2-span slab-on-steel girder bridge (7.4 m wide, 32 m long). This included developing of 3D Fast Nonlinear FEM for composite structure subjected to pedestrian and crowd loading, storage, CHBDC maintenance vehicle. Bridge is designed based on ABC for 4 prefab units, each has deck resting over twin girder, 2 are connected longitudinally with UHPC joint, and each pair is connected transversely over the negative moment by link slab. The Fast-Nonlinear FEM included the use of the Lead Rubber Bearing. Design followed AREMA, CHBDC, OBC, CSA S413, CSA A23.1, OPSS and ACI/ICRI.
HEAVY MOVABLE BRIDGES
Ship Channel Bascule Bridge, Port of Toronto. (2023): Provided 3D Finite Element Modeling for the movable bridge. Prepared structural repair details for the steel structures.
Keating Channel (Bascule) Bridge, City of Toronto. (2019): Provided structural design for the anchorage system including top and bottom lifting lug as per ASME BTH-1 to lower the elevated Bascule Bridge. Work also included design of shoring the counterweight of the bridge.
Prairie Siding (Swing) Bridge, County of Chatham. (2018): This included structural review for the existing two-lane bridge that consists of 3 segments; the first and the third segments are the 2 approach spans that act as continuous slab-on-girder bridge with two unequal spans; and the second segment is heavy movable structure HMS made of orthotropic steel plate deck resting on tapered steel plate girders (swing bridge). Structural assessment included ULS and FLS loading checks, and 3D FEM for the orthotropic swing bridge.
Wasauksing Confederation Swing Bridge. (2017): This included assisting in writing 5 volumes titled: Operational Manual; Mechanical Maintenance; Electrical Maintenance; Manufactures’ Literature; and Shop and “As Built” drawings.
OVERSIZE AND OVERWEIGHT PERMITS (OOP)
Evaluation Engineer, evaluated 12 transportation structures for due to moving of oversize/overweight Permitted Control Vehicle that weighs 154,855 kg. (2020): Evaluated a total of 12 different structures including 5 bridges (multi-span slab on CPCI girders, multi-span slab on steel girder, two-spans Post-Tension Voided Slab Bridge, multi-span slab over AASHTO prestressed girders), 5 buried culverts (i.e. three-cell culvert, rigid frame box culvert, Open Rigid Frame Open Footing Culvert and 2 corrugated steel pipes), 1 buried pipe and 1 gabion wall.
Evaluation Engineer, evaluated 9 transportation structures due to moving of oversize/overweight Permitted Control Vehicle that weighs 214,462 kg. (2020): Evaluated a total of 9 different structures including 3 bridges, 3 buried culverts and 3 buried pipes.
Queensway Bridge (slab-on-steel girder bridge) Subjected to the movement of the Self-Propelled Modular Transport (SPMT) carrying special load, Dufferin Construction Company/ Western Mechanical / City of Toronto. (2018): Provided detailed structural analysis/evaluation for four-approach spans (bridge superstructures) that consists of 16 girders each span and 5 ramp-spans that consists of 4 girders each span, while inspecting the bridge before-and-after the special loading.
BRIDGE JACKING
McCOWN Road Over Highland Creek, City of Toronto (Contract 23ECS-BE-11BS). (2023): Work including enhanced visual inspection for the substructure and superstructure components, review existing drawings, and design bridge jacking up system under SLS and ULS shoring loads for the skewed bridge.
Berry Road Park Bridge, City of Toronto (2022): Work included inspection before and after jacking, and design the bridge jacking up system under SLS and ULS loading.
Rathburn Road Bridge, City of Toronto (Contract 19ECE-TI-09BE). (2019-2020): Work including enhanced visual inspection for the substructure and superstructure components, review existing drawings, and design bridge jacking up system under SLS and ULS shoring loads for the 3 single-spans bridge.
Humber River Bridge Mile 5.02, Bridge Jacking, Soncin Construction/Metrolinx. (2018): Provided detailed design for micropiles, pile caps, post-tensioned reinforced concrete corbels using DYWIDAG Threadbar over the central and helper piers, evaluate the central and helper pier for eccentric loading generated from gantry crane lifting in the aim to perform rapid bridge replacement RBR for the railway deck plate girders DPG bridge. Structural analysis used a developed Strut-and-Tie Model STM. Design followed FHWA for micropiles, AREMA, ACI and CSA.
BRIDGE INSPECTION
Biennial Inspection and Bridge Study Needs for Township of Severn. (2023): Provided OSIM inspection for 39 road structures. The prepared Bridge Study Needs Report included the estimated remaining service life (ESRL), Bridge Condition Index (BCI), Current Replacement Value (CRV), Maintenance Cost and Capital Works Plan in 10 years.
Biennial Bridge Inspection for F.G. Gardiner Expressway, City of Toronto (2019-2022): Provided OSIM inspection for the 7.0 km elevated bridge.
Biennial Inspection and Bridge Study Needs for Township of Severn. (2021): Provided OSIM inspection for 39 road structures. The prepared Bridge Study Needs Report included the estimated remaining service life (ESRL), Bridge Condition Index (BCI), Current Replacement Value (CRV), Maintenance Cost and Capital Works Plan in 10 years.
OSIM Inspection for Pedestrian Bridges, Toronto Parks. (2019): Work including enhanced visual inspection for substructures, superstructures, approach areas, railing/barriers and embankments for bridges with different structural system including wood bridge, reinforced concrete bridges, prestressed bridges, composite and orthotropic steel bridges, and steel truss bridges. Total 89 Pedestrian Bridges.
Detailed Visual Inspection for Reinforced Concrete Culverts, 4 Culvert Rehab as Part of 20 Culverts Contract, City of Toronto. (2017): at 127 Danforth Road over West Highland Creek; 279 Warden Ave over Massey; 291 Ellesmere Road Over Massey Creek; and 921 Foxridge over Massey. The Inspection followed the MTO Structural Rehabilitation Manual (OSIM).
Downsview Park OSIM Inspection, Toronto (2013): Inspection for 5 pedestrian bridges and prepared the OSIM sheets along with the Bridge Condition Index (BCI) Overall condition.
RAILWAY STRUCTURES
Lawrence Pedestrian Underpass Tunnel, Metrolinx/Soncin. (2017 - 2019): This included structural analysis and design to replace a portion of the existing tunnel to carry additional railway tracks per AREMA. Centennial Parkway Station, Mile 38.04 Grimsby S/D, Metrolinx. (2019): Provided structural design for the 263 m long cantilever retaining walls that is subjected to Cooper E80 loading, design followed AREMA and Metrolinx Design Guide.
Humber River Bridge Mile 5.02, Bridge Jacking, Soncin Construction/Metrolinx. (2018): Provided detailed design for micropiles, pile caps, post-tensioned reinforced concrete corbels using DYWIDAG Threadbar over the central and helper piers, evaluate the central and helper pier for eccentric loading generated from gantry crane lifting in the aim to perform rapid bridge replacement RBR for the railway deck plate girders DPG bridge. Structural analysis used a developed Strut-and-Tie Model STM. Design followed FHWA for micropiles, AREMA, ACI and CSA.
Bridge Rating for Overweight load over 4 railway bridges, Soncin Construction/Metrolinx (2018): This included detailed structural assessment for 4 existing railway bridges subjected to special loading due to replacement of DPG over moving railroad flatcars, assessed bridges including; 2 deck steel plate girder DPG bridges, prestressed concrete bridge, and rigid frame concrete bridge (Humber River Bridge Mile 5.02, Old Queen Street Bridge Mile 5.15, Park Lawn Bridge Mile 5.82 and TTC Humber Loop Bridge Mile 5.32 respectively). Steel bridges were modeled using 3D FEM to determine the effect of the section loss. Assessment conducted with reference to AREMA 2017, AISC 2016, and ACI 318.
Centennial Parkway Underpass, Metrolinx/WSP. (2017): Provided detailed reinforced concrete restoration services for the ballast walls. This included the redesigning of reinforced concrete troughs over the ballast walls, repositioning of plumbing system for the railway Through Plate Girder TPG bridges/Tracks and allow for slide-in bridge construction (SIBC). Design followed Metrolinx Design Guide, and Ontario Provincial Standards OPSS.

Lawrence Height Buildings, City of Toronto. (2020): Provided shop drawings for total 60 reinforced concrete stairs in 30 buildings owned by Toronto Community Housing.
Parking Garage (5 Hilden Dr., Spryfield, Halifax, N.S.) (2016): Converting steel-reinforcement concrete parking slab into Glass FRP-reinforced slab. Work is performed to ProcutSteel Inc. Design followed CSA S806/S807/S413, OBC 2012, and NBCC 2015.
Elevated Parking Garage at 8 Alderbrook, Toronto, ON (2016): Prepared 3D Finite Element Model (FEM) using SAP2000 to design an elevated parking garages reinforced by Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) Rebars. Design followed CSA S806/S807/S413, OBC 2012, and NBCC 2015.
Bank Triangle (1480 Bank Street, Ottawa) (2011): Provided structural designed for multi-span portal steel structure frame with Open Web Steel Joists (OWSJ), retaining walls, and slab-on-grades. Design followed OBC, CSA S16, CSA A23.3, and provided the full drafting services.
Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG), North America, (2010): Work included structural calculations for the dead, machine, and environmental loads, and to determine the appropriate sizes for the steel structural members as per ASCE 7, AISC and CSA S16.
Concord City Place, Concord Adex (Toronto, ON) (2010): Liaised communications between structural design firms, contractors, and steel fabricators. Issued placing drawings, bar lists, bar bent schedules (BBS), and takeoffs using AutoCAD, RebarCAD, and MS Excel.

Developed Design Equations for the Bridge Railing Loads, Ryerson University / Megastone Inc. (2017): Prepared 3D Finite Element Models of edge stiffened cantilever bridge deck slab overhang with horizontal bridge railing load to simulate the vehicle impact on TL-2, TL-4 and TL-5.
Prepared Parametric & Engineering Market Studies, Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE Talent-Edge Research Project, Contracted by V-Rod Canada Inc.), Toronto, ON (Sep. – Dec. 2016): Prepared parametric study on the cost-effective design of bridge barrier-deck junction and connected deck slab cantilever using GFRP bars in conformance with the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code CHBDC. Prepared 3D Linear Finite Element Modeling using SAP2000 for edge beam moment in edge-stiffened infinite cantilever slabs.
Investigated the Static and Cyclic Loading on Glass FRP-Reinforced Precast Full-Depth Deck Panels with UHPFRC Closure Strip. (2011-2016): Design-built 3 actual-sizes short medium span bridges (SMSB) of 7.5 m long bridge made of Glass FRP-Reinforced Precast Full-Depth Deck Panels (FDDP) jointed by Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC/UHPFRC), resisting over straight steel plate girder bridge, while applying constant amplitude fatigue (CAF) followed by ultimate-to-collapse loading and variable amplitude fatigue (VAF) loading. Several developed design equations, models and procedures for SLS/ULS/FLS were presented into research papers.
Investigated the Bond strength mechanism of Glass FRP Bars Embedded into Ultra-High-Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete. (2011-2016): Conducted parametric study and experimental investigation to determine the appropriate bond length and connection geometry for the moment resisting connection (MRC) between the precast full depth bridge deck panels (FDDP) jointed by UHPC/UHPFRC. Developed several design equations, models and procedures were presented into research papers.
Investigated the Ultimate-to-Collapse Testing for Full and Partially Composite Action for Slab-on-Girder Bridge. (2013): Conducted several experimental tests on the stud connection and shear clusters distributions.
Developed UHPC/UHPFRC Concrete Materials for CBM/St. Mary’s Cement, Ryerson University. (2015-2016): Developed concrete mix design (CMD) for the Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) and Ultra-High-Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) that should be used as the joint-fill for the prefabricated bridge element and systems (PBES).

Investigated the Structural Performance for Structural Insulated Panels SIP (Contracted by Thermapan SIP Inc.), Ryerson University (2011-2016): Conducted 5 years of creep-deflection test for 1 ft. wide, 8 ft. and 16 ft. long SIP subjected to creep deflection subjected to temperature and relative humidity effects. Developed strength interaction model.
Investigated the Structural Performance for Permanent Wood Foundation PWF panels (Contracted by Thermapan SIP Inc.), Ryerson University (2009-2011): Conducted 8 months of creep-deflection test for 4 ft. wide and 8 ft. long PWF subjected to eccentric axial loading, flexural loading, long-term of 8 months of creep-deflection. Developed strength interaction model and nonlinear visco-elastic creep models.
Investigated the Structural Performance for Structural Insulated Panel (Contracted by Thermapan SIP Inc.), Ryerson University (2009): Conducted 3 months of creep-deflection test for 8 ft. long Structural Insulated Panels (SIP) in conformance with ASTM E72 and ASTM D6815 to develop design recommendations.

Housing and Construction Management (REM 600)
The focus in this course is the housing market, including condominiums, single-family homes and large land development projects. Topics in this course include demographic analysis, housing design, site planning, public relations and the municipal approval process. Particular attention is paid to the physical structure of residential properties and the management of the construction process.
Introduction to Architectural and Structural Design
The course provides students with the basic knowledge of structural analysis and design for buildings and other structures. Students will investigate the behavior of structural systems and elements through design exercises, case studies and load testing of models. Students will design structures using timber, masonry, steel, concrete and fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) materials.
Ontario Building Code (OBC)
This course provides learning strategies that include understanding the building act and code fundamentals, municipal relationships, building matrix and building architectural and structural design requirement. Students get introduced to the Building Code Identification Number (BCIN) exam.
