The Sisters and Brothers of Moonstone Abbey invite you to join us in a gathering (LOCATION DATE AND TIME) to mark the Autumn Equinox and final harvest of the year with a ritual celebration. This is the time of equal duration of darkness and light, during which we celebrate balance and recognize the coming of darkness. The ritual will be followed by a reception in the nearby Moonstone Abbey tent, within which we will partake in some of the bounties of the season.
During the ritual participants will place offerings within the circle, and everyone is invited, though not required, to join in doing so. These offerings can be anything significant that marks the changing of the season or represents harvest gleanings. Some suggestions are wine, gourds, acorns, pine cones, grains, corn, apples, pomegranates, vines, ivy, dried seeds, oak sprigs, autumn leaves, wheat stalks, woven crowns. Please note that it is customary to leave the offerings at the ritual site, so bring something that you will not miss!
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join in these chants in their entirety, or to repeat and emphasize certain parts of them. Here are the words if you would like to practice beforehand:
CHANT 1
We all come from the Goddess,
And to Her we shall return
Like a drop of rain, flowing to the ocean.
CHANT 2
Hoof and Horn! Hoof and Horn! All that dies shall be reborn...
Corn and Grain! Corn and Grain! All that falls shall rise again...
The coming of darkness allows for a time of quiet regeneration and incubation. This is a season for the nurturing of roots and souls. Twice during the ritual we pause for reflection - once upon the past season and again to look towards the future. Participants are welcome to share their thoughts with the rest of those in the circle. What are you grateful for in your life this past year? What will you choose to sustain, to plant like a seed and grow for harvest in the coming year?
An we harm none;
Weal be our aim.
Peace unto thee;
Pray wish us the same.
