Welcome! My name is Ms. Mary Dunlap. I am honored and privileged to have your child as one of my 4th graders this year at Shoemaker Elementary! There are so many different ways we are able to learn; I utilize a variety of methods in my classroom to keep things fresh and exciting. Our classroom is one where your child will be able to share and express his/her ideas in a safe and nurturing environment where they will feel loved and respected.
Your child will have a team to work with. For ELA and Social Studies, they will have me, Ms. Dunlap (mdunlap@eastpennsd.org) and for Science and Math they will have, Mrs. DiStefano (rdistefano@eastpennsd.org).
This is my tenth year teaching at Shoemaker Elementary and my 17th year teaching in all! I have taught in 6th, 5th, 3rd, and now 4th grade. Just between us (shhh!), 4th is the best! I'm so excited to be a part of team Shoemaker! I love teaching children and fostering a love for learning as well as helping my students grow. I believe in teaching the whole child - academic and social-emotional. I fully embrace a student-centered classroom along with growth mindset thinking!
In fourth grade we focus on collaborative work in teams and partners. This gives real-world skills to our students. We learn Interactive learning is HANDS-ON learning! Technology is used as a tool for learning in our classroom to enhance what we are exploring, for final copies of writing, and for some creative, hands-on projects.
I graduated from DeSales University with a BA in Elementary Education, Cum Laude. I graduated in 2022 Summa Cum Laude from East Stroudsburg University, earning my Master's Degree in Reading. Reading and comprehension are at the core of everything else we learn.
