Class Norms
Norms
In Charge of My Education Creed
If I am taking charge of my education this means that I should never sit idle in a classroom. I should review my work for completeness and grammatical errors. When satisfied that my work is acceptable I should sit quietly and read.
Assignment Oath
I Will;
make sure that my work is neat, organized and legible.
use black or blue ink pen for all assignments.
properly format my assignment according to classroom norms.
will not turn in assignments with notebook “frillies”.
Our Culture (How we do things)
You may bring a bottle of water to class; you may not leave for a drink of water during class.
Learn from your mistakes and move on.
Gum Chewing is not allowed anywhere or anytime on campus.
I will CLEAN my area and the area around me. This means that I will pick up trash, pens, paper, books, etc. and put them in their proper place.
I will treat myself with respect.
When a “crisis” occurs during class with a fellow student I will let the teacher handle the “incident” even though I want my peer to know that I care and want to help. If I am needed the teacher or my peer will ask for my assistance.
When I forget to bring my “tools” for class and need to borrow a pen, pencil, crayons, etc. from the class supply I will return the borrowed item when I am done.
When I leave my desk area I will push my chair in so that I do not block the walkway, this also means that I will put my “back pack” or “book bag” in a spot that will not cause someone to fall.
Wasting Time, when I choose not to do a class assignment and communicate with my peers or fool around I am taking away from the earning potential of my salary when I am an adult. It is my job to work hard at achieving excellence in my classes.
I will act in a manner that shows my true self and not as a character in a play. I will not be the “dumb jock”, the “blonde girl”, or the “gangsta”. I will be me, PROUD, HONORABLE and INTELLIGENT.
If I do not agree with or like an activity that a teacher has planned I will refrain from derogatory (negative) comments. Activities are fun when done in groups with my peers. If I have nothing good to say then I will keep my mouth closed. Saying negative comments is hurtful and mean.
In the teacher’s absence a substitute will be present to instruct the class for the period. This person will be treated with respect and absolute courtesy. I will not misbehave and use good judgment.
