Portfolio Assignments:

Portfolio Assignment #1 - Go to your computer workstation and make a comprehensive list of tourist attractions for New Brunswick. We will be using this list for another assignment later in the course. Use MSWord to make the file and save it in your HT110 folder in your home drive with the filename, Tourist Attractions. Here is a link that will help with this assignment. Feel free to use other web sites or paper resources from the class as well. Value 20.

Portfolio Assignment #2 - Make a tourist map of New Brunswick using chart paper provided by the teacher. Use colours for more marks. Make an accurate map of NB, include rivers, towns, cities, provincial parks, provincial Visitor Information Centers, golf courses, scenic routes, your list of tourist attractions from Portfolio Assignment #1 and include a legend & title. You have the choice of working in pairs or on your own. Value 20.

Portfolio Assignment #3 - You are traveling to your "Dream Destination"! You are to completely research the location. Plan a 7-day, any season, vacation for a couple or a family of four or a group traveling together. Individual Dates for Presentations will be posted on the calendar on my web page. Remember you will need to pre-empt regular class work in order to complete this assignment depending on when you are scheduled to present. Directions for the assignment are here.

GCO 1: Introduction to the Hospitality and Tourism Industry

- NB Tourism Sites Internet Scavenger Hunt Activity- Use the internet or others sources from the class to answer the questions from the activity sheet link.

- Explore each of the internet links from the Hospitality & Tourism Web Sites section, down below.

- Complete the tourism career activity sheet.

- Complete the Current Event assignment for tourism.

- Complete the New Brunswick Study worksheet.

- Prepare a poster to illustrate the Recipe for Happy Tourists. (Notes)

- Explore a timeline of lodging, travel or food and beverage throughout the ages. (Roman Era, Middle Ages, 17th – 19th Century, 20th Century.)

- Create a word search puzzle or game using tourism-related terms.

- Complete the PAM project.

GCO 2: Identify Tourism as it Relates to the Atlantic Region

- Create a brochure, placemat or other visual format to promote local tourism. Use MS Publisher, MSPowerpoint or another graphic program to create your brochure or placemat.

- Create a presentation or poster based on the eight sectors of tourism. Students may develop a presentation of all sectors or a collage of all eight sectors as a poster. See 8 sectors below.

You will not be using any more class time to work on previously assigned work. You can schedule time with me in the morning, at noon or after school to work on missed previously assigned work. I will need you working on the final project during class time as I do the bulk of my assessing then.
