Mrs. Tippel’s Reading Incentive for 2023-2024
*Usually I participate in the Book It! Program from Pizza Hut but I have found over the past few years that pizza isn’t as much of an incentive as it used to be. I have had several students who don’t care for pizza so it isn’t much of a motivator for those kids. Two years ago, I designed my own reading incentive program and it was a total success! Every child turned their calendars in every month because they wanted the rewards! It was awesome! So I have decided to use the same program this year. Here is what it involves:
A monthly calendar will come home and reading minutes need to be recorded on the calendar. The calendar will be returned at the end of the month to Mrs. Tippel. I will put a turn in date in my weekly note.
The goal will be--200 minutes per month or more to earn a reward.
Each month there will be a different reward, selected by Mrs. Tippel. (These are a surprise!!)
I will have a chart in the room on which I will record each child’s minutes at the end of each month.
At the end of the year, Mrs. Tippel will provide a reward based on how many months each child has turned in their calendar (They must have a minimum of 5 months to earn a reward and they can earn only 1 of the rewards.)
Year end rewards are as follows:
*5 months---earns a trip to my prize box to choose a prize
*6 months---earns a movie theater size box of candy of choice
*7 months---earns a new book of choice from my collection
*8 months---earns a $5.00 gift card to Belt’s, Carl D’s, or Dairy Queen.
These will be given to students the last week of school.
Our final incentive will be to reach a class goal of 20,000 minutes. If we reach that goal by May 20th, the class will earn an extra recess for 30 minutes the last week of school.
Let’s ROCK reading this year!
