Meet The Teacher

Hello families and students!  My name is Kristen Nelson, and I am one of the fifth grade teachers at Fishkill Plains.  My homeroom, room 5, is a co-teacher classroom with Mrs. Patterson. 

While I am not a Wappingers native, I grew up next door in the Arlington Central School District. Upon graduating, I attended SUNY Cortland where I majored in Childhood & Early Childhood Education.  From there, I went on to SUNY New Paltz, where I received my master's degree in Special Education and Literacy Education. Since then, I have taught in both New York City and Fishkill Plains.  The 2024-2025 school year will mark my eighth year teaching, and my sixth on the plains!

When I'm not teaching, you can find me playing volleyball, hiking, and running.   I also enjoy reading in my free time, and run my own book club.  My favorite thing to do, however, is to spend time with my family.  My family is made up of my husband (Alex), my daughter (Quinn), and my dog (Mishka).
