Theme/Letter of the week: Letter I
Literacy/Language: Identify, trace, and write the letter I. How does I sound? Brainstorm some I words; Model the letter I with various objects; Distinguish between lowercase and uppercase I; search for letter I or I words around the room. Complete Letter I books.
Journal: "I like to ___________ with my friends." (This will connect to our topic/theme in Religion.) Also, after reading the story, Adventure Island we will create an island in our journal and write what type of island we would like to be on. "If I had an island, it would be called_______". For example, "Candy Island", "Marshmallow Island", "Chocolate Island". (This will connect to the letter of the week, I is for Island.)
Religion: Identity: God wants us to be a friend to one another; How can we be a good friend? What can we do with our friends?
Science: Exploring Ice (I is for Ice) We will predict and make observations using ice; what will make ice melt the fastest? Is it flour? Salt? Water? Cornmeal?
Social Studies: Scholastic News; Johnny Appleseed (Johnny Appleseed Day was September 26th)
Math: Number 1: Write it; trace it; Model with manipulatives; Model in a ten frame; Tally marks; Number word; What number comes before and after?
~Letter Craft: "I is for insect"
~Ice cream cones using "puffy paint" (shaving cream) for the ice cream. After reading the story, Should I Share My Ice Cream? we will also share who we will share our ice cream with.
