My name is Sharon Garlick and I am the director and one of the teachers in the Early Childhood Program. I am currently in my 19th year of teaching. My last 11 years have been here at St. Monica, a place I am privledged to work with the youngest minds in our school!
I have been a part of St. Monica's school family for 13 years since my move back to Michigan with my husband and four children. All four of my children attended St. Monica, two have graduated from Hackett Catholic Prep and the younger two still attend.
In the Early Childhood classroom, my focus is to educate children using gentle, research-based methods that lead them into a relationship with Christ, a relationship with God's creation, and a love for learning.
My methods include:
  • Spiritual - A " hands-on " rich faith formation experience that gives children the opportunity to grow in love and knowledge of God.
  • Spoken and Written Language- Kinesthetic methods are used for teaching phonics, reading and spelling, using literature.
  • Fine Motor- Providing developmentally appropriate, multisensory strategies for early writing.
  • Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)- These skills are taught whenever the opportunity arises, and also specifically and deliberately in all other curriculum areas.
