Meet the Teacher
My name is Sonya Dumont and I am the Kindergarten teacher at St. Monica Catholic School. I am currently in my fourth year teaching kindergarten but have been in the education field for many years. My husband and I live in Three Rivers and are the proud parents of five wonderful children who range in age from 9-18 years. I am excited to be a part of your child's educational journey!
In Kindergarten, we will focus much of our learning around Theology, Classic Literature, Nature Studies, and the Cradle of Civilization.
In kindergrten, we learn and experience many new things in theology. We read and hear various stories from both the Old and New Testament that teach us about God's covenants and promises. In addition, we explore and learn the items we see at Mass while also participating in many shared prayer experiences. Kindergarteners will also participate in Catechisis of the Good Shepherd.
Kindergartners will learn and explore within the four main math components of Counting, Addition and Subtraction, Geometry, and Measurement. We will also focus on problem solving techniques.
Reading and Language Arts
In Kindergarten we will focus on both phonological and phonemic awareness, segmenting, blending, phonics, reading for fluency, writing, as well as speaking and listening. We also utilize the great works of literature into our weekly studies.
Kindergartners will study a wide variety of topics that include nature studies, weather patterns, the needs of plants, animals, and humans, motion, as well as the effects of sunlight on the earth.
We will explore Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia (Cradle of Civilization) during our kindergarten year inorder to have a better understanding of the history of the world.
