Second semester is well under way. There’s so much learning going on in our classroom.
Next week, we'll be reviewing growth mindset with a fun unit titled, “What can we learn from a cactus?”. As the rigor increases, students will be reminded that it's okay not to know all the answers, but it's not okay not to try. We will also be introducing "Habits of a Scholar" and each week students will read a biography and identify the scholarly habits. Take time to reinforce these habits at home.
Permission slips and fees for next week’s field trip to the planetarium are due tomorrow. Please return the completed permission slip and fees (if applicable) by January 18th. You can see a trailer for the film by clicking here. I’ll also confirm chaperones tomorrow. If you’d like to join us, please send $3.50 to class with your child for an adult ticket. We have been studying constellations in class this week in preparation for the field trip. Students are working in pairs to create a 4 minute presentation which will be shared with the class next week.
We are also preparing for our class play, Vacation on Mars. Mark your calendars and plan on joining us at 6 pm on the evening of February 28th. Please let me know right away if your child will not be able to participate in the evening performance. Every role is critical and we depend on having a complete cast for our performance. Everyone will be in the play and practices will occur during class. Auditions will occur at the end of the month.
Finally, thank you to the parents who have already started volunteering in class, for field trips, and with at home tasks. Your help is greatly appreciated and does so much to allow us to offer such a great program. Also, thank you for all of the generous supply donations and for sharing your children with me each day. You really are the best around!
